hey Michael,
i gleaned through everyone of your pictures in this thread again...i feel like a beginner-customiser...wanting to ask you to slow down and explain one unit at a time  :P

i can visualise Rourke's Drift and zulus in the near horizon...your toppees look geobra-factory-finished...(maybe someday geobra doesnt have to commission their mould designer to make one...if youre willing to sell them your copy-right...for our sake!  :D )

i like 'two-toning' my klickies' hats...maybe its because i enjoy masking and spraying too...have you seen any real photos of toppees sporting a darker/lighter cloth band?
the complete helmet covers and the band of cloth could have been different materials...it would look even more stylish(i do compromise correctness with beauty, often) in 2-tone, if i'm allowed to add  ;D

perhaps you can customize an original french shako of the napoleonic time. The geobra ones have not the right size.

They are great - almost feel the sands of the desert.  I have always liked models of soldiers on camels and I have now GOT to make a camel corps figure!

@leblanc: if it is not too urgent :D i will give a french shako a try but i have to look for a suitable existing plastic part as model first
 
@cheng: the cloth (pugaree) was stained in the sudan campaign with tea or tobacco juice, which clearly looks much better. i hope to find a way to cast it in different color. a spike and spectacles are also on my list... ;D

HM I am seriously starting to dislike you.

My one and only attempt at painting a "flat" was an officer of the 3rd Lt Dragoons of the 1st Sikh War and it was so awful it's still hidden in the back of a cupboard because (a) I can't bring myself to show it to anyone & (b) I can't bear to throw it away either.

Now you produce a first rate model klickie of the same figure!

I'm depressed and going to lie down.
