Highland unit
« on: December 06, 2006, 11:02:38 PM »
Hi everyone! I would like to have some tips in order to make a WWI or WWII highland unit:

1) How to make kilts?
2) Where could I find "bolt acion" rifles?
3) Hoh could I make colonial helmets?

Thank you for answering a newbie.

There are some different methods for creating figures with kilts.

I've seen some conversions where a kilt has been created from printed paper which is wrapped around the legs. I think it might actually be EsDoc (Mathias) who perfected that method. :)

The other way, which is more complicated but gets very good results, is to cut down a full length skirt (from one of the Victorian or Western ladies, for example), trim some legs from another figure and piece the two sections together. You can then paint your tartan pattern onto the 'skirt' - tricky, but not impossible if you have patience. ;)

This page might also be helpful, especially if you are planning to make a large number of soldiers...

As you can see, Richard is a bit of an expert on making colonial helmets and kilts. ;)
