Hi folks.

I juststarted to get onto Playmobil figures after years of collecting "standard" model and toy soldiers.

Glad to see I'm not the only one!

 Nice to see you Dan.

I too started customising Playmobil after collecting standard model soldiers and was relieved to find I wasn`t alone!  :D

You wrote in the Justforklicks guest book:

"I've been collecting model/toy soldiers for years but there's not a lot of laughs in it really"..

http://justforklicks.com/cgi-bin/guestbook/guestbook.cgi

I found that it wasn`t a lot of laughs either. I hope you`ll have more fun here

David

Hello and welcome Dan,

Welcome to GW-PC, Dan!

Many of us started out with various kinds (and scales) of metal and plastic toy soldiers ... ;)

However, most of us have found that Playmobil toy soldiers are the most fun of all! ... :)

We're happy that you've joined us, and hope to see lots of fotos of your figures.

All the best,
Richard

You might find a clue as to why David lost interest in them here, EsDoc :)
How I was Captured by Playmobil Soldiers!

Welcome to the forum, Dan. :D

Why wasn't collecting model soldiers a lot of laughs/

The simple answer is because of the people who do it.  Many of them are great and good fun but some take it all too seriously.

The bit about "Prussian Hussars had brass scabbards" (or was it steel?) is just what I mean.  Some collectors were so negative about what was supposed to be a hobby for relaxation and fun!

As for my period, its anything from Vikings to the First World War.

You'll see my first efforts as soon as the miliput's dry and painted!

I love the Napoleonic figures I've seen especially the French Hussars but the 7 Years' War British grenadiers are some of the best things I've ever seen.

Although most of us here at GW-PC are aware of the historical facts regarding uniforms and equipment (and battles), few (if any) of us take such things seriously.

I think that what you'll find here at GW-PC, Dan is a lot of big kids having lots of fun! ... :)

I think that we all agree that any "nit-pickers" will be mentioned in despatches and drummed out of the corps ...

Thanks again for joining us and we're waiting for your Milliput to dry ... ;).

All the best,
Richard

Welcome Dan!

For me, Playmobil is the perfect remedy to being burned out by super-exacting realism-at-all-costs types of people. There are some customs presented here that are absolutely magnificent, and I am sure as historically accurate as more "serious" models, but really, how serious can you be when all your figures have that same cheesy grin! :)
