Armored Samorai
« on: November 06, 2006, 12:58:52 AM »
Hello.

Here is an armored samurai I made. It's all Playmobil parts except the armor panels and the cresent on the helmet. Weave pattern was made in Adobe Illustrator. It turned out very fragile and fell apart several times so there are chips and smears in the paint I just didn't have the patience to get out.

The wave pattern you see in some of the weave is a photographic oops and is not present on the actual figure.

hey Knightmo,
so youve moved East  ;D

fantastic custom!
i have always been wondering how to attach those flat armor pieces for them and also never really satisfied with my samurais' leggings...

yours is as near as we can get as still look very PM-like  ;)
i cant make these like yours...i'll keep hoping and praying that geobra launch these someday!  :) (like they finally have done..after years of prayers for Romans  ;D )

and i like his 'moon' ! i have improved the brass 'horns' of my samurais and will show you too...soon...still waiting for parts.

I told her she would find me in the U.S. Cavalry.

Hi :)

Thank you :)

...heh, speechless..my stuff seems to have that effect over here :)

Here's more pics. I hope these are a little better. They show more of the flaws, that's for sure! I could have Photoshop'd it, but I resisted.

I'll expalin better too:  The little ties/bows on the sandals and upper armor are from the pirate special. The ankle straps are each a half of Cleopatra's blacelet. the helmet is/was the barbarian one with horns. I added the brim and the "flaps" using plastic from the motorboat engine housing. The pants are from the pirate. The belt is basic sword belt with added loop for katana and the knot is from the head band(the part I didn't use when I made the belt for my regular samurai).

since Tim has 'resurrected' this thread and if Jimmy is still around  ;D
may I add & ask;

hey Jimmy,

Q:
i assumed you painted over the klicky's eyes with flesh color first...what brand paint did you use? (if you mixed it yourself.....it was a perfect match  :o ! )

Q:
what brand epoxy did you use? are they still holding today?  ;D

Q:
i'm still curious where those little red crosses and the chest armor came from( you said pirate special  ??? pirates with armor?   :P )

last question...any new ones to show us, Jimmy?  :)

Hello again:)

Yeah, my forum time has been slim to none on every forum I used to frequent. My dad told me this had been revived. Thanks for the compliments.

Lets see if I remember how I made this guy... :P

The eyes: If I remember right, I used cleopatra's eyes and what is eye now, was her eye-lashes. I just rubbed off the paint.(at least, thats how I did one my samurai)

Adhesive: It was just ordinary super-glue, and it did not hold well. In fact he fell off the shelf some time ago and broke apart so much, he was unrepairable.

'Crosses": Those are not actually crosses, but small bows/knots from the pirate beard. They were supposed to show where the armor pieces were tied together.

..and no, nothing new. I have had several ideas, but nothing has come about. Im presently unemployed, and have had a dramatic shift in priorities. I hope to get back to it someday, though:)

very original ideas Jimmy!
especially the 'eyelashes' eyes  :D

....if you had asked me a 'trivial pursuit' question and I bet I would never have guessed where your crosses came from  :P

unemployment is getting worse...I hope we'll all survive this somehow   ;D ;)

I'm hoping Cheng offers to hire us as his personal retainers.

But, seriously, from what I've read at least from Icelandic sagas, many retainers were just the guys hanging around the property who the landholder agreed to feed in exchange for extra bodies to beef up his entourage when he needed to "make a deal" with his neighbors.

The romantic warrior class we fantasize about--
A gaggle of bums...

Well, I guess, after you subdivide your land, giving parcels of it to the most useful of your bums, those bums become "gentry."

It's funny--
The entire "warrior class" business--it's a euphemism for what we'd call nowadays "organized crime."

I always thought a samurai was the one figure that couldn't be made from a klicky - looks like I was wrong!
