Varangian Guard and another Streltsi
« on: February 28, 2006, 08:31:12 AM »
OK, this one is pretty simple, but I think it works okay. A viking warrior of the Byzantine Empire's famed Varangian Guard.

And beside him is the Russian I copied from Specialist - because some vikings of the Rus settled in, and eventually gave their name to, Russia. It is amazing to see how far and wide the Norsemen travelled, to trade as well as to pillage, and see their influence in so many parts of the world from New Foundland to Constantinople and the Middle East!

Very nice customs, Capitan! 8)

Which set does the torso for the Russian figure come from? (I was admiring it when I saw it on Ralf's custom and also thinking how useful it could be. :))

I think, it's come from shepard old or new on in special serie 4615.
I've used it for my own rusian streltsi ;)

So it is! Thanks, Stéphane. :)

It's funny how parts often become harder to recognise when they are used in a new context.

I only bought one of those Specials, but I now see that I should have got extras for customising. I think the hat and the pouch the shepherd wears on his belt are only available in those colours in that particular set and the cloak might be unique too. They're not common parts, anyway.

Another great one! 8)

Hi Stéphane,

I remember your Streltsi, and I have copied him as well, sort of. I couldn't find a red skirt piece, so I gave him a long black coat instead. I couldn't find any references to the color of their uniforms.

But I did find it interesting what they chose as weapons. The battle-axe and sword, along with a firearm - very unique. In addition, I posed mine using the battleaxe as a support for the flintlock - which I read was how they actually shot.

That is a very good klicky to use as a base for customs. I was fortunate enough to get several when they were available.

If you need any of the accessories (hats, pouches, cloaks) let me know, I am sure I have a spare (or two) lying around somewhere! :D

Interesting: I customized "The Black Streltsi" a while ago with the only difference that I used a red arab style belt and a pirate musket. I think some combinations have to be made and the nun is always welcome to help out with here black robe, isn't she?

simply great!  :D
I left my love a letter in the hollar of a tree.
I told her she would find me in the U.S. Cavalry.
High, yo, down they go, there's no such word as can't.
We'll ride clean down to hell and back for Ulysses Simpson Grant.
