But why does every one shave off the eye holes on the ocular helms as opposed to the horns of the viking helms to create the nasal piece helms? (The helm in your last picture, the guy in the middle is wearing it.)
To answer this question: I think it is
1. just easier, because one has not to shape the surface of the helmet. Maybe the helmet you have in mind has only a metallic surface over a brown core (I seem to remember but I can not look up right now). That's the reason that always prevented me.
2. The nose protection of the sutton hoo helmet is longer.
Fortunately enough and thanks to pm we will have a norman nasal helmet in a few months. :-)
