The graphic above shows exactly the same uniform for the 1st Foot Guards in North America during the time of the AWI. But, I'm curious about the hat ...

The broard brimmed hat with the feather seems to have been adopted unofficially by the British Army serving in South Carolina under Lord Cornwallis.  There are various picture of it being worn, presumably because it gave more shade that the official bicorns and bearskins.

And, it's actually a much more attractive hat than the tricorne ... ;)

Since we are not at all nit-picky here at GW-PC about the uniforms that our Playmobil toy soldiers wear, I probably shouldn't even have asked the question. However, I was a bit curious and I really do appreciate your providing a quick and very informative response, Dan!

Thanks for the Pic Dan.  I used a plate from an Osprey military uniform book as a guide. Sorry that I can`t scan it. Here`s all I could find on the net. My book showed a black feather.

Red feathers were worn by one regiment (I think the 49th) just so the rebel colonists would know who they were.  The regiments's sucessors in the British Army today still wear a red cloth behind their cap badges to commemorate them.

Hi Dan,

      I think you´ll find it was the 46th, which later combined with the 32nd became the DCLI
     Here`s a pic of the later cap badge and in the second paragraph a brief description of the Battle of Paoli and the reason they wore a red feather.
