We like to think of it as an expanded chess game played in one's garden.
If anything it shows the futility and stupidity of real war.
And, our combatants continue to smile as they know that our competition is for fun!
Actually, our engagements are much more "peaceful" than any contact sport where young men trip, push, tackle and bash each other ...

Too bad that you've chosen to leave us, as the late Victorian period is one of my favorite historical eras.
