Great rendition of the Texas Lancers from the ACW, Michael!
After having lived in Texas for more than thirty years, I can assure you that this is probably exactly what they looked like. Their uniforms definitely would have been as you have shown them with your wonderful Playmobil figures. They would have indeed been wearing remnants from the Mexican war, civilian (cowboy) clothes and some bits and pieces of Confederate uniforms.
Do you know the history of the Texas Lancers and their charge?
There's an interesting post at the Hät Forum ... Click HERE (http://pub19.bravenet.com/forum/1619281253/fetch/686817/)!
Thanks for another very creative Playmobil custom, Michael!
All the best,
Richard

:o :o
Peculiar and not very known!!
-
hey Michael !
good to see some more of your customs!
and again, i fall for those Lego flags and lances ;D
and your use of 'old' type horses ;)
those peaked caps..
and turkish-like flag...
what a beautifully assembled 'rowdy' team
and Richard,
i had a mouthful of questions for Michael until i read your link to U hat...
youre always the person to anticipate/field all my 'ignorant' questions ;D
so only 1 question for Michael.....was the conferate wearing a union jacket supposed to be a defector or was he wearing a dead-northerner's shirt? :P

Very nice customs Michael! Especially the backround story is interesting! Very well done! ;D Thank you also for the provided backround info and pictures!
Of course a thank you to you aswell Richard, for providing your link! ;D

@ all: thank you :)
@ richard: I did not know too much about this unit before. I found the pictures on the www and they suggested their implementation as a pm set.
That's a tragedy :P.
Thank you very much for the information, Richard. Any more always welcome.
@cheng: Let's say, the person in question grabbed the lance in melee and tries to get away now ;)
I like the old horses, because they can 'run' in different gaits while the newer always trot.

Nice ones henry , I fear u even used Lego parts for ur customs :o, but the result justifies that :D . I didnt even know they had lancers in ACW...I never saw them in a movie.

Even the north had at least one unit equipped with lances: the sixth Pennsylvania cavalry or Rush’s lancers.
see http://www.rushslancers.com/rushs.html (http://www.rushslancers.com/rushs.html)
They did not use this weapon throughout the acw and so it is no wonder that they did not make it into a movie or are not readily recognizable if they do so. ;)

and now again a pm part

Your lancers look great, Michael!
As you probably know, Playmobil has made a lance with a pennon that they've used for both the knights and the cavalry sets. The part number for the cavalry pennon is: 30 64 8260.
This information is available at Heather Patey's wonderful Playmobil Data Base (http://www.playmodb.org/)!
All the best,
Richard

hey Michael...
youre tempting me again with your mounted troopers :D
and those Lego flags and lances ;)
i can feel the rush...you positioned the horses beautifully...their leader already looks great with his sideburns and gold epaulettes...
and your use of these old type horses really make me 'see' them... like their horses are readying(you know, that forward and backward motions when the riders are sort of holding them back) to take of..just waiting for the rush once their leader gives the signal :)
and Richard, thanks for the revelation...i have one such 'flag' but i always thought it was a flag and not a lance(so its rounded off for safety sake?)

Thank you. :D

As cheng did I always considered it as a flag, too. I have chosen the poles because they are cheap (what is really cheap when collecting pm?), ds available and will be for there some time on, have a brown color, a 'modern' shape and fit perfect with the lego flags which are available in several different colors and patterns. I am afraid that cavalry pennon 30 64 8260 is no longer available and as I rarely have seen it (i have only a broken one) not easy to find especially in larger numbers.
And it can never be said too often that Heather's magnific playmodb :o is invaluable for our hobby.
Again thank you all, I have still a few plans for this thread. :)

I'd heard of Pennsylvanian Hussars but never Texas Lancers!
Very nice.
