Knights
« on: December 23, 2006, 07:02:25 PM »
The figures are "standard" but I have repainted the shields with coat of arms of real knights.

First, Sir John Chandos an English hero of the Hundred Years War.

Sir John D'Arbernon, not a famous warrior but his memorial brass is the oldest in England.

John De Vere - Earl of Oxford.  The first coat of arms I learned to recognise (because the Oxford Arms pub was at the end of our street!)

I left my love a letter in the hollar of a tree.
I told her she would find me in the U.S. Cavalry.
High, yo, down they go, there's no such word as can't.
We'll ride clean down to hell and back for Ulysses Simpson Grant.

Your medieval shields are beautiful, Dan!

The splendid paintwork is reminiscent of the old toy soldier master, Richard Courtenay!

Richard Courtenay's miniature knights are famous throughout the world of toy soldier collectors!

Your figures are truly magnificent, Dan! And, they bring back fond memories of an old master craftsman. Thank you!

All the best and Happy Holidays,
Richard

Not sure if you know this.... but if you click on the small thumbnail images, they will open at a much larger size.
This should help you see them in closer detail.  :)
