eddings
« on: August 31, 2007, 10:34:03 AM »
good morning everybody,

I want to build up a new regiment of Russian infantery for my army. I wnated to try an other way of customizing: not with colours and brushes I want to try the 'edding' way. Thats why i have a few questions:

1) do white eddings exist?
2) does an edding really covers up even darker 'ground' colours on a figure?
3) how wide/big (I mean the tip I will draw with) should the edding be?

Thx

Gaius

Hello, Gaius ...

As you know, Playmobil produced Color Paint Pens (sets 3600, 3601 and 3602) to be used on white Klickys.

Paint pens are not as easy to use as a paint brush. It is also more difficult to get a consistent even color with paint pens. Also, the paint pen colors tend to fade unevenly over time.

Most art supply shops carry different types of paint pens from a variety of manufacturers. And, yes, there are white paint pens (also gold, silver. etc.) Paint pens seem to be a bit more expensive than paint for brushes. It is also very important to keep the tips clean and shake them well before using.

If you are looking for a different painting technique, you might want to try airbrushing, and use paint pens for the fine detail.

Good luck and all the best,
Richard

tanks for answering Richard,

unfortunally I dont have those Color Paint Pens and if they even faint over the time I think I will go on using normal colours and brushes. Maybe, for some details I will use golden eddings.

Hello!!!

Standard permanent eddings exist in some colours like black (very good), red (transparent), blue, green, gold (opaque), silver (very good) and white (opaque)

Some colours are in various calibrated pencils, for other colours buy staedler or other manufacturers

see Argand thats the problem. I dont want opaque eddings I want some who really cover even darker backgrounds. I never heard of "staedler", but Ill ask my local shop if they could help me out.

Question...  To raise a Russian army, and I assume in the Napoleonic period, what klickys do you plan on using?

The only soldiers currently offered are the Redcoats.  Do you have a source for the bicorne style hat the Officers wore?

Is it these you plan on painting?

Very curious, as I would also like to raise a French Army in this period and was planning on it until PM discontinued these type figures and the cannon from the Western theme.

da Hugh...
you have an easier task (compared to Gai)..still plenty of blue torsos, white/grey legs around...and canons on eBay!

Gai...
WHITE BASECOAT SPRAY.....very fast...very neat....'factory-finished' (cant you find any white torsos?)
...see my zouave caps...i have to spray white first...before spraying yellow...for the same reason you need this....

@da Hugh: Im planning to use the policeman special 4609 (I have still enough rifles to arm them). I cose it because of his cap which I havent been using up to now. The torso is already green and there are just the trousers who have to be repainted.

check out this picture (soldier number 2 or 4):

If u want to make French soldiers I have to agree with cheng that there r still a lot of blue torsos out there, but unfortunally not in the special series which makes it difficult.

@cheng: I think u r right Ill have to put something like a 'ground' colour on the parts before I can start painting...

its no problem to critizise cheng, it can just be helpfull  :). To my mind the green of number 2 and 4 are just the same and the green u described is too bright...concerning the hats Im still not sure wether I tokk the right choice.  ???

yes..some PM green are too bright...even my US sharpshooters were too bright(even tho' i used the darkest PM green torsos...those old ones without buttons)

there are some members who paint matt dark green for greater accuraccy...but i wanted to maintain the PM look ;D

as for the peaked caps...its interesting that you mentioned this...i too wonder which is the best PM peaked cap(there being so many choices..lucky you)...but it wont matter much which one you choose..i think the color will stand out before anything else  ;)

do show us soon!
