very good, Gai !
i find your last 2 customs very inspiring....French revolution? (i have not noticed any customs of this period)
and good luck for your exams ;D
-
Good, good, but for precision use permanent marker like edding 3000 (great surface) or edding 850 (fine precision point)
-
Great gaius! You can use the "breastplates" (i don`t know the english word) of the old "harbour guard set" as a template for the uniform of your french soldiers. You will get fantastic results
-
@cheng: thank u, I think I will own my professors :)
@Argand: Ill keep that advice in mind, my argument against eddings was up to now that they are too shiny.
@Leblanc: I know what u mean. unfortunallly I dont have those, but Ill look for them.
-
They all look very nice. I really like the hat on the French soldier it looks to me. I could really use a few of those. ;D
-
Yes Gaiustulius, but warm cleaning reduces it

do you have a picture to explain which type of french uniform you meant? (using those 30031010 white lapels from those 'old' circus musicians like this?)
-
I guess this was what he ment cheng.
@Argand : what do u mean by "warm cleaning" ???
-
First cleaning the clicky with warm water, scourer and fine polishing for vehicles, next paint with marker.
Other solution, paint it directly with marker but polish tint in fresh with chamois for reduce shine, it is plus dificult to make until maintain the tint fresh

you can use this variant for many soldier types. Presupposed you can
live with the fact to paint your figures
First you needs the two blanks
-
Then you joins the two parts. Now you can paint the edges of the plate tight on the torso, with a white coloured pencil.
-
Now you paint the inside simple with white color. My favourite is the colour of games workshop. Provide with buttons on the sides, if you want, ... completely
-
I add now still equipment in addition, and a new member of
the line infantry is ready for combat.
-
First one needs the two blanks
the problem is that I dont have them ;). If I find a figure that could b painted with eddings Ill try that technique though. I always used brushes and color cuz I did it always that way, but for details eddings wil be better I think.

It is possible to make this piece, single you need a dipper with boiling water, one laminates of blister plastic and an unsuitable body of clicky.
The sufficiently ample thing like covering clicky trims a plastico piece.
Hold it with elastic rubbers on the body and cooks it several times in boiling water (15-30 seconds/time)
Example made on another action figure

-
thanks for sharing your very clear instructions, Leblanc !
and Arnand too !
i hope Gai will have the patience to wait till after his exams to do those :P
-
thx for those instructions, I think this should work especially well for armors of knights. Thx flash for ur wishes, it wont be possible to fail with all those best wishes. Two weeks and and Im done with them...and after that again in 3 months *sigh*

hi all, I got the exeercises behind me and had some time for customizing again which makes me very happy. :D
1) a figure which is a bit "unnatural" so to say. Its a field chaplain from the ACW. The idea came me when watching the movie Getthysburgh where is a scene whith an field chaplain conducting a mess. For further information see here -> http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chaplain. Somehow hidden in this figure are also my first spraying tests. The torso was a mixture of green/silver/black and I wanted to try if the spray could really cover up all those colours and Im quite convinced. :) The details are painted "as always" with a brush, which is still my favorite tool.

2) a conquistador. Only few words to this figure: a simple but impressive combination of only original parts which just sprang to my mind. A special (4666), a helmet from the new spanish soldiers and a sword.

3) a Roman legioneer having a break

EXCELLENT, Gai ;)
and good to see you back in action...
just what I need, more inspiration to try some new customs and share them ;D
-
thx cheng, yeah its good to be more active again. :)

what sort of inspiration do u need cheng? A movie, some pictures or a person to talk with ;)?
-
just looking at more customs like yours and i'm itching to post some soon ;D
-
well done, the padre is invited to preach also to some of my units. ;D
-
@henry: roger that man, Ill send him over :D
@cheng: for u my friend I just build an other figure so we can see some of urs soon again :). I guess I somehow got converted to the "spraying" faction in the forums. I got some new sprays today and was eager to try them. The following figure is located in the 100 years war or in the war of Roses. Its a crossbow man wit a big shield, called Pavese in German.

Cool custom, gaius! :o A french one, right? What about some english longbow archers?
-
ah...Gai...another 'spraying' buddy..good good!
your photos are quite dark...let some sunlight it ;D
not too thick..if you want to red/yellow etc to come out very bright..do use white as a first undercoat layer
nice custom!
-
I will think about an longbow archer Leblanc! cheng why are the pictures too dark? I dont want them be too bright that looks badly. Thanks for the info about grounding the figure white I think I will tery this with the English archer :)!
-
Your spraying works pretty well. :D
I dont want them be too bright that looks badly.
Not that my pictures are perfect :P, really not. But I think what cheng means is that you might consider to add some more contrast to your pictures. I took three of my favourites, cut the surrounding whitespace before and used the automatic contrast correction of Paint.Net which is freely available. (Of course with this tool further changes can be made, too.)
If I went off topic too far, i will remove this post instantly on notification. :) And I promise not to complain again should you wish to keep your special stylistic feature. ;D
And please send the padre over as soon as possible. There are a few scoundrels around here that deserve a decent sermon.
-
u didnt go too far henry, customs and their presentation are somehow the topic :). I can cut out the white spaces if u wish it. I think they are so big because I often use the pictures as desktop wallpapers...If I add some more contrast to the pictures the lines are to my mind a bit too harsh and the colors are somehow "disapearing". Ill build a bowman today or tomorrow and I will try to "customize" even the picture. Thanks for this honest answer wand the tipps henry!!!
-
Congratulations to your promotion and your 500th posting, gaius julius ;D
And, I did not wish that you cut your pictures. It is merely advisable before using the automatic contrast function because a very large portion of light areas results in a more intensified darkening of the colored main part of the picture. As I use only normal daylight probably due to similar reasons as you I normally use graphic programms to intensify the therefrom resulting low contrast (with the effects you said you want to avoid).
So please do not mind my upper suggestion. Now I understand completely your intentions. :D
