I'm interested in medieval warfare & heraldry so here are some klickies repainted with "real" heraldry on thier shields.
First, Sir James Douglas, a brave Scottish knight who was given the task of taking the heart of the dead King Robert the Bruce to Jerusalem (Bruce wanted to be a crusader) and for that reason added a heart to is coat of arms.
-
Second, Sir Walter Hungerford. Not a nice man, he had a long standing feud with the town where I live (Newbury) and on one occassion in the 1450s attacked and pillaged it!
-
Finally, William, Earl Warrene (ancestor of the Dukes of Norfolk). When King Edward I asked his nobles to produce title deeds for their estates, he came along with an old rusty sword.
He told the King his ancestor had used it at the Battle of Hasings to conquer his lands and he was prepared to use it again to keep them.
The King took the hint.

great combination of customs and stories
Sir Walter does not look so evil as his deeds might suggest
i really hope to see and read much more of them.
btw was the heart painted with the red color you once told about? ;D
