at last i finished at least a part of my cavalry project. these r my first tries of "soft customizing" u will see my effort was to customise my klickies so i could "decustomise" them anytime again... a sort of multi-usage-possibility...
anyhow, this cavalry outfit is part of my larger idea of building a western town, fort, ranch, indian camp, etc. (one day if i ever find the time! ::))
im happy i managed to create these klickies so far... pls let me know what u think!
one last ty to funky from the german board whos pictures and instructions inspired me and to whom i owe the original idea (as far as i can tell) of attaching the rank insignias!
some more info about my troop.
i choose the 3rd USC as the fictive troop because my fort's headquarters r of that regiment, the bio and officer's names r not taken from the original duty rosters and r completely fictive!
the troop is set sometime during the early 1870's in the then so called colorado territory.
i gave all soldiers names and a short bio, if some names seem familiar to u, dont be surprised, many names (or at least a part of the name) r from rather famous cavalry / western films ;)
now here we go at last :P

When I have a bit more time I will go through these a bit more carefully
However George Butler is from:-
They died with their boots on
With Errol Flynn
Do I get a cigar for that
Craig
-
lol very good craig... as i said u will find many names that r taken from those old films... and about the cigar i can offer u a virtual one ;D
-
The Southern officer with the eyepatch is from "She Wore a Yellow Ribbon" or is it "Fort Apache"?
But the Doctor is William Holden from "The Horse Soldiers" with Richard's beard & the medic's from the same film. How about adding the scout "The Deacon", in the top hat who travelled the country "singing the praises of the Lord"!
I'm going to have to get out my John Ford western collection and track them all down! (I'm down with flu & believe me I have NOTHING better to do!)
-
actually dan he is from rio grande ;) but u got close enough :D
nice idea about the scout btw, i might have to build him ;D
-

like Flash, i try to stick to what i call my 'reversible' customs...but i dont hesitate to spray caps becuase those i can easily change('reverse') :D
speaking of my ACW guru, Funky, why is he almost never see on english-speaking boards anymore? :(
your insignias are printed on paper right?(the colours are not as bright as the bugle on your avatar...did you digitally brighten the bugle on your avatar? ;)
-

hand painted!?
really jealous this time ;)
have you explored printing on sticky pvc sheets? there are lots of instant print booths in the shopping malls but they print by the rolls..minimum 100pcs but its usually teeming with kids...maybe i'll use my daughter one of these days but that can wait ;D
-
Wonderful customs, Flash !!!
Your photos bring back some very pleasant memories of some of my favourite films ... :)

hi cheng... dont be soooo jealous lol... im pretty bad at hand painting and it took me a lot of effort to convince myself to try it on a that cap... i actually did the lineout with a pencil before painting it and i wont go any further with my "painting skills" ;)
i dont know of instant print booths, however using this self-sticking-paper works pretty good for me tbh. i was surprised at how easy it was in a way. all u need is get ur measurements right and a decent printer. :D
