Title: SysX Designer
Post by: henry_martini on September 08, 2011, 11:48:23 AM
Sir Pleamo from the german KW forum (he is member here too) created component libraries of (probably) all SysX parts and a most useful extension for the free Google Sketchup 3D design tool. To practise and to get to know the SysX parts (of which I have hardly any in reality) I took the liberty to copy one of Specialist's middle east buildings.

Once fairly accustomed to the handling, the component libraries and the functions of Sketchup it is quite easy to assemble structures.

Google Sketchup is available here (http://sketchup.google.com/intl/en/download/index.html). The component library and an introduction can be obtained getting into contact with Sir Pleamo via PM  ;D.

The gate is WIP.  ::) Updates soon.   ;D

Well done! :o
I find Sketchup impossible to use though... :-\
Plus I would be torturing myself
If I could make these creations
And not then play with them!

Thanks, Michael (HM).

Sketchup has been on my computer for awhile. One of these days, there will be time to play with it ... ;)

Where on Klickywelt did Sir Pleamo put his SystemX libraries? Can anyone access them?

All the best,
Richard

I'd rather not claim that it is very easy but as said once a few things are known it is not more difficult than dealing with the real things. In fact I started two or three times, achieved something but it took a very small couple of hours (not days) and some discoveries until I felt comfortable.  But it is worth the trouble.

Actually any really elaborate building would require amounts and a variety of parts that are beyond my (and probably most peoples) stocks. We can at least explore what is possible and maybe get an idea what to acquire. With enough of such inspiration getting the real thing might be the next step.

PM sent.  :)

Thanks Michael for promoting the 3D-Library project here so nicely! To be fair, Michael was (and is) a big help for this project, thanks deeply again!

Where? Nowhere! It is available via PM to me, but to draw the whole picture, Klickywelt is no longer the place of the main debate... The most information and/ or discussions can be found at playmofriends.com (in cachalote's thread System X designer wanted (http://www.playmofriends.com/forum/index.php?topic=5760.msg135848#msg135848)). Some further more reasoning can be found in my thread Developing System X (http://www.playmofriends.com/forum/index.php?topic=8904.0). Here at GW there is only this small statement (https://gardenwargaming.playclicks.com/forum/index.php?topic=1466.msg13681#msg13681).

I would be happy to answer further more questions, if there are any!

Wow, it's so exciting to see what others build with this library... can't wait to see more, Michael!

It will be not easy -- not to say impossible -- to pass your designs.  :o  :)

Just a step onward.

Sir Pleamo anounced the next version of his Sketchup Library.  :)

The most important thing: It will be much easier to use.
Further:
- steck parts included (see below)
- still more parts

Check it out here:

Some progress on my building site too. But I had to move it to a more powerful computer before.  ::) ;D

I started a virtualisation of specialist's set 3820 (https://gardenwargaming.playclicks.com/forum/index.php?topic=260.msg10012#msg10012) to get into SysX designer again.

Below a view of my virtual play room.

I'm honoured. Other members make my buildings coma alive virtualy. To be honest: to work myself into that SysX-Designer-thing is the project for my oncoming summer-holiday. So watch out!

A few issues still have to be solved but this rather meant to show the possibilities of the sysX designer tool.

Sir Pleamo has enhanced the Sketchup library. There are  much more parts, esp. steck, and some important improvements, esp. a grid has been layed over every piece to make it easier to clip them onto each other. It really works.  :-D

I once again I built one of specialist's sets (1819) for demonstration.
