I just finished paying my annual income taxes and I am running low on extra funds for Playmobil. However, I thought by now someone in Europe would be showing pics of an Egyptian army. Oh, if Playmobil would do a series on the Hittite army...
Putting these two together would make a nice battle... I am thinking of many chariots and doing a scaled down version of Kadesh.

I haven't seen any pics of any Playmobil Egyptian armies yet either. I'm in the U.S. and so the Egyptians are not yet available, unfortunately. I intend on creating a modest Egyptian army (to act as Meroians) to fight my Romans, but I also have some customs made from the Roman Centurion Special that could act as Hittites, perhaps. The Roman chariots would work as Hittite chariots too. When you get your army together I'd love to see pictures.

If you go to the Playmobil website, they are available in the US. I also live in the US, actually in Missouri.
Try:

I also thought of using them as the Egyptian army verses Caesar and the Romans in Egypt. They are not in the same time frame in history, but oh well. It may be later this year when I can get some.

Unfortunately, only a couple of the Add-Ons are currently available. The sets won't be released until August.
-
All the sets are available at ToysRUs in St. Louis.

Hi da Hugh,
My local Toys 'R Us also has most of the sets and I believe they are 20% off until near the end of November. I've purchased all the Egyptians I want (one of each set plus 2 extra chariots, and 39 extra 5-man soldier sets) and now have to assemble them.
-
That is quite a collection, it comes to over 200 Egyptians. A good size army to display or battle with.
I was thinking that with 40 sets, you could take x number of the mounted leaders and make them foot leaders and put regular foot soldiers on horseback and have Infantry, Chariot and Cavalry units.
Very kool!

40 sets of Egyptian soldiers (200 klickies), WOW!
I have 4 sets, that is 20 soldiers. I have made them up as 4 cavalry, 4 archers, 8 spearmen and 4 swordsmen. Plus I have 2 chariots.
I did not arm them as pictured. The barefoot klickys are my archers, the ones with the circural chest armor are my cavalry, the soldiers with the blue emblem on their chest armor are my spearmen, and the klinky with the red emblem on their chest are my swordsmen.
My soldiers will be in units of 20, as I purchase them, one unit will be spears and the other will have the pole-arm blades. I might do my cavalry and chariot units in groups of 10.
As my Romans are grouped in cohorts of 24, I need at least more sets of Egyptian soldiers to stand a chance.
This is going to be a work in progress that will really strain my budget. lol...

I really like the Egyptian klickies and chariot. It sounds like you've got your army off to a good start with 20 men and two chariots and have a good plan, da Hugh.
I think 20 soldiers per unit is a good number as it looks very formidable yet isn't overwhelmingly large to move. My Roman centuries have 20 soldiers each and the 1:4 play to historical ratio works well. I was originally going to have my Egyptian units be 20 soldiers as well, but I then decided on larger units, as the Egyptians were organized in companies of 250 men each with a battalion consisting 500 men with one company of heavy infantry and one company of archers. To maintain my 1:4 play to historical ratio would have required companies of about 60 men, but I felt that was too large, so I settled on 40.
With the five-man packs I've created 40 heavy infantry (green accented breastplates, helmets, shields, and spears), 40 heavy cavalry (blue accented breastplates, helmets, shields, and long spears), 40 light infantry (barefooted men with red accented shoulder armor, headbands, and axes), and 40 archers (green accented shoulder armor and cloth headpieces). I've made the blue backed red accented breastplate klickies my standard bearers and trumpeters and have created a custom officer, armed with a khopesh, for each unit. I'll try to post some pictures eventually.
I didn't get all these sets at once, although I did complete my purchases within a three-month period. Ridge Road Station's 15% off coupons, free shipping, and no sales tax helped ease the pain a lot. I've told my wife I'm finished buying Playmobil for the most part, as I'm running out of room, but if they re-introduce a new Western theme, I'll probably be there, much to her chagrin!

I have made two posts... one yesterday and one today before this one. They are not posted, but when I looked into my profile and last posts, there they are. What is going on?
Help!!!

I checked the error log and the moderation log. Nothing unusual there and nothing has been moved or deleted for quite a while. I don't know what is causing your posting problem. :(
edit: I just noticed there's a very similar topic to this one in another part of the forum. Maybe your other posts were there?

Hi da Hugh and Justindo,
I got several Egyptian sets back in July, immediately after my return to the UK after 3 weeks in the US, but had to immediately store them all away for shipping to the US, so I haven't had much chance to photograph them.
I'm still not going to have a lot of room when we arrive in the US in December, because we'll be living in a rented apartment for at least 3-4 months and possibly longer, so my poor Egyptians will have to wait.
I filled 8 64 Litre boxes and another 8 50 litre boxes with various Playmobil, plus various miscellaneous sized cardboard boxes. I honestly don't know how much Playmobil I have right now.
Here's a couple of shots I did back in July before the great packing started.

My Egyptian army has grown with 11 sets of Soldiers and 3 chariot sets. I have changed my organization to 25 man foot units, this will be better at going up against my 24 man Roman cohorts. My chariots will remain at units of 10, and my cavalry may increase to more than 10.
I am already starting to customising my troops. Just by changing helmits, head rings and sorting out by chest ornaments and weapons.
-- Don (my real name)
-
I think I've seen that custom before, Martin, and I really like it. You've done a nice job diversifying your Egyptians.
Your army is growing quite quickly, Don! :) Like the Romans, I think the Egyptians look pretty good as they are. Headgear, hair, and weapons changes are all that's really needed, in my opinion.
-
Recently TRU has restocked with the Egyptian theme. My army has grown a little bit with:
64 Soldiers, 16 Cavalry, 8 Chariots, and using the Grave Robbers as Arab mercenaries: 16 on Camals with 2 on horses.
I suspect that between now and the end of November, it will have doubled.

I'm glad to see your army has grown, Don. With those numbers they should soon be ready to take on the Romans, especially with your chariot corps.
I'll try to take some pictures of my some of Egyptians soon to show you my different troop types and I'd love to see some pictures of yours. :)

My Egyptian Army update.
This weekend TRU has had a 'buy 2, get 1 free' sale on Playmobil. I have a science-fiction convention to go to the 1st weekend in October, so I need to save my funds.
However my Egyptian Army now consists of:
88 Egyptian soldiers
22 Cavalry
11 Chariots
8 Tomb Robber mercenaries on Camels
and 4 Robbers on Horses.
Hopefully there will be more sales in November.
-- Donmobil

Your Egyptian army's size is becoming formidable, Don!
-
Thanks, it is growing, but it still cannot hold up to my 150+ Roman Army.
-- Donmobil
-
My Egyptian Army now consists of:
96 Egyptian soldiers
24 Cavalry
11 Chariots
8 Tomb Robber mercenaries on Camels
and 4 Robbers on Horses.
Hopefully there will be more sales in November.

That is awesome!
I wish my armies were as big as that. ;D
Soon they will be able to face off with your Romans.
-
Oops! I could not stand having less than 100 Egyptian soldiers, so...
I now have:
100 Egyptian soldiers
25 Cavalry
11 Chariots
10 Tomb Robber mercenaries on Camels
and 4 Robbers on Horses.

Nice! :)

After spending $800.00 in van repairs and Christmas, I wasn't able to expand my Egyptian army much so I finished 2010 with:
100 Egyptian soldiers
25 Cavalry
11 Chariots
22 Tomb Robber mercenaries on Camels
and 4 Robbers on Horses.

Unexpected expenses are always unwanted, but it's good to see your camel mercenaries have grown, Donmobil. :)
-
Definitely a force to be reckoned with! :o
I love the idea to Camel Cav,
I was planning on doing them too when I start my Egyptian army. :)
Can we have pics? ;D
-
The mercenaries won't like it but I am thinking of useing them at full gallop and ramming into the Romans line. Not many can stand up to being hit by a galloping camel, not even Romans. lol
I'll use my chariots in galloping past the Romans and shooting them with arrows. They are too few and too valauble to lose them ramming Romans. Their speed against foot soldiers will also cause a few casualities.
Right now I am unable to take pictures, maybe in Feburary or March.
Thanks for looking,
Donmobil

Here may be the final update for my Army as I have not seen any sets around for awhile:
112 Egyptian Soldiers
28 Cavalry
17 Chariots
28 Tomb Robber Mercenaries on Camels
and 5 Robbers on horses.

With the discontinuation and the scarcity of the Egyptians, this may indeed be your last update, Don. Still, that's a very formidable army!
I picked up a half-dozen chariots on clearance a couple months ago so that probably brings my Egyptian army up to its final numbers too.
-
Thanks Justindo, I often wonder if a Theme is discontinued because of a lack of or low sales or is it that Playmobil needs to stop certain Themes to make room for new Themes.
-- Donmobil
-
I think it is the second option. Look at the Romans, those must have done well right?
That is an incredible army da Hugh! :o
Do we get to see any pictures? ;D
I would love to see the chariots, or the camel cavalry. :D
-

I would think so too, although someone reported that the Roman theme was not a success. ???
-
I noticed in the new catalog for 2013 that the Roman Family is back and the Roman Galley is still with us. More importantly they have brought back most of the Egyptian sets. So I will be able to expand my Egyptian Army. I only hope they bring back the Egyptian galley.

That's good news! :)

I posted a "test" a few days ago, it went through. Itried to post a message -- nope. So here goes another "test post".
