does this look original?
-
Wow that looks amazing Cheng. :o
Did you use an airbrush to change the feet?
-
thanks Grant...sprayed all right...keep them genuine-like what I think Geobra might do...it'll look even better on those Roman sandals... :D
I try to hang on to soft-customs but its hard to proceed with Asians without Ralf's and Tim's help ;)
btw, I like your (trojan?) avatar!

Great job. Even the debatable color combination of this part makes sense now.
And it still looks perfectly pm. :o
Did you just apply spray color or did you cut the feet too?
I am looking forward to the torso of the figure.

thanks Michael !
I used to fret about those purple/blue etc foot covers of our Wikings but no more :D
no cutting nor sanding...just spray only ;)
i'm testing new torsos other than snapping on those old samurai warriors' torsos

looks like this prototype will have to do :) before I 'mass produce' these japanese legs like I did for my 'chinese legs' ( https://gardenwargaming.playclicks.com/forum/index.php?topic=1144.msg9349#msg9349 ) ...I just simply put a temporary torso and head on this...the hardest is the legs and then the head/hair (which is still 'cooking' in my head)
-
the other side; (having posted these, now I'm wondering if this should be moved to the 'customs' section?)
-
rainy weekend and so I finally made a few more and hope Geobra will take over soon...its too tedious :D

Hi Cheng
The legs look really good. the boot tops make great gaiters (leg wrap).
Have you tried the "pirate breeches"--the legs that look like short-pants, bare calves, and shoes? I painted one up for an unsuccessful japanese figure. The shorts simulate the pant-legs bound at the knees pretty well.
My figure wound up being a disaster, but I was happy about the legs.

yes, i've bought 3 long ago but still not ready to spray their samurai sandals yet........youre right....I like the wider-looking pirate breeches (better than these wiking legs) which are more like the real thing.....but i'm still not reay to make those floral patterns on them like you did ;)
maybe i'll just spray the sandals and worry about the patterns later! thanks very very much!
I'm planning to leave the calves bare....more for samurai(s).....
on the contrary, Tim, I have seen your this custom before and I liked it....and also those coloured wool (so 'wound' up was a good choice of words ;D )
I liked your protective 'skirts' too...perhaps you might like to consider using those colorful but stiffer and narrower telephone wires? :) I appreciate your suggestions very much!!

Thanks, Cheng, I'll look into that.

Thanks for the compliment Cheng.
Every time i look at your creations your going to encourage me to go out and buy a airbrush
for myself.
I like the other legs that you did. Can't wait to see them all assembled.
-
hey Grant...go get that airbrush...you can always resell it if you retire from air brushing ;)
and Tim...thanks for helping me decide to do up these legs! (the 'sailor' legs)
-
They look very good to me.
-
I hope the black legs will manage to struggle free. :D

thanks guys!
...well, he's a ninja...just 3 non-combatans from a fishing village...should be easy (fish)meat ;D
-
made another pair of legs...(not for a heavily armoured samurai)....ala playmo but which they will never make ;)
-
Your new legs are WONDERFUL, Cheng !!!
Are you going to tell us how you made them?
-
..Are you going to tell us how you made them?
thanks Richard!
nothing new...just very very careful masking and spraying
the next task would be the heads...I wish Geobra would hurry up and launch some samurais sooner :D
-
this pic was taken under my table lamp...would have deleted it if you've not asked, Richard :P
not too clear but you can see the painfully cut and stuck red masking tapes....the easiest part is the spraying of course but spraying too takes years of practice (unless you do it every night ;D )
after spraying the off-white socks, I proceeded to mask the socks and spray the final blue what-you-call 'gaiters'? or 'shin guards' if they played soccer with those heads they lop off :D
why is Geobra taking so long to launch these ??? I'm sure kids like the 'basic' samurai & ninja...while we need their heads ;) :D at least

Hi Cheng
Do you use a regular big spray can or do you use an air brush?
Do you cut that colored tape into strips, or buy it that way?
Problems I've had with using tape to mask is that the spray still seeps under the tape. I bet I'm spraying too much. But, I can't imagine regular transparent tape working at all for what you are doing. Can you tell us the tape you use (maybe I can locate similar in the US).

hello Tim
(there are many such similar questions in the other forums too)
I'm using those small spray cans from Tamiya, Gunze etc which shoot finer sprays than those regular DIY cans with larger spray nozzles...perhaps this is what you used? :P
again, I recommend Tamiya (I'm sure there are other brands but its just that I've been a Tamiya collecter for a long time) produces tapes in various widths but I sometimes cut them narrower....again, please dont be tempted to use those cheaper DIY masking tapes which are not meant for such fine small areas. ;) Dont throw you tape away, practise on a plastic surface or something and see if its your paint or tape or patience that was giving you this problem. For flatter surfaces, I do sometimes use those advertising stickers (they are much thicker and sometimes are just PVC coated paper so be careful)
Paint seeping under tapes does irk me too....
you must carefully check and press them down completely...
most often its due to spraying too much at a time....you have to be very patient and spray one thin layer at a time....no luck needed :)
-
didnt do anything really new to my 'old' samurai torsos...so here's just an 'application' for this new pair of legs
-
Hi Cheng
Thanks for the information about paints.
How about a close-up of the two samurai you attached above?
I'd like to see the details of the armor and of the unarmored man's sword and belt.
Looks really good!
-

thanks and no problem Tim ;)
I dont have special lighting nor can take really close-up pictures...so I hope this enlarged picture will help :)
(the armor is exactly the same ones as those I posted in my old threads)
-
same type of legs with black shin guards..
those legs with striped pants are equally acceptable for making such legs but I think I have made enough and will stop here :)
-
Thanks for all the really great photos, Cheng !!!
Your Asian Klicky custom are really fantastic !!!
Thank you for sharing beautiful customs (and the "how-to" pictures) with us.
All the best,
Richard
