TEN YEARS ...
On the 13th of April, ten years ago, Garden Wargaming (https://gardenwargaming.com/) became a Playmobil website.
To celebrate our first ten years on the web, we will feature a different Ralf Gemein theme for each of the remaining nine months of 2008!
Playmobil artist, Ralf Gemein (http://www.john-doe-kunstraum.de/en/Egemein.htm), has created more than 200 custom Playmobil sets. Ralf's sets use only Playmobil parts, so they can be duplicated by anyone who can take a Klicky apart!
Around the time of the turn of the previous century, when the British Empire was at its greatest, there were magnificent Durbars and Jubilees. The first theme pays tribute to this golden era. Click HERE (https://gardenwargaming.com/) to join us in the beginning of our ten year celebration ...
All the best,
Richard and the entire GW staff

Happy birthday!!!!
....and thank your very much for the honour of being featured on the website (which is exactly the site that made me start my career as a customizer).
As a little birthday present, I will try to publish a new set every day of the month. Sets will be from all my themes and today we start with a new series, specially created for gardenwargaming's anniversary.
Look for it in the Customes section.

Happy Birthday! I've only been a member of this site for less than a year, but I think it's a wonderful place due to all of the creative and polite contributors. Ralf's customs are magnificent and a perfect way to celebrate this 10 year birthday.

and my sincere thanks to Richard and his team for building and maintaining such a perfect 'home'....without which my playmobil customising would have ground to a halt years back ;D

Thank you so much Richard for giving us the chance to celebrate one of the best sites on the entire internet. It´s marvelous Playmocreations have been so infectious, that I am a Playmoaddict since I first stumbled over your site in late 2000! The inspiring customs made me crawl into my cellar and rediscover the beauty of old Playmosets and made me squander a fortune at Ebay to fullfill my constantly rising needs of Playmosoldiers. Since then I´m a loyal visitor to your site(s) and worshipper of your and our fellow playmofriends´ creations. I´ve learned much about Wargaming and customizing and am still honoured to be the first ever collector to have a guest gallery at your precious net presence (mayhaps we should update it someday???). How could your great site be better celebrated than with a display of Ralf´s beautiful customs!! Huzzah, Huzzah, Huzzah!!!!
All the Best for the next ten years
Yours Olki!!!!!
P.S.: I really hope to meet you in person at the Wolfsburg Convention 2009, finally!!!!!!
-
Happy birthdays and congratulation to the creator.
:) :)

Hello, Volker ... (http://www.gardenwargamer.com/images/wave.gif)
... am still honoured to be the first ever collector to have a guest gallery ...
The honour is ours, Olki ! It was your wonderful Playmobil armies that actually started Garden Wargaming's Guest Gallery (https://gardenwargaming.com/gallery/olki/olki.html)!
P.S.: I really hope to meet you in person at the Wolfsburg Convention 2009, finally!!!!!!
Because of the continuing construction on our home in the Virgin Islands, it will probably be very difficult for me to attend Wolfsburg in 2009. However, I will be there in spirit!
All the best my friend,
Richard

Playmobil artist Ralf Gemein has created thirty-three original "Special Specials" that were never produced by Geobra!

MARATHON
The Battle of Thermopylae (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Thermopylae).
The "300" (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0416449/) ... "300 Spartans" (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0055719/)
Most of us probably know about this incredible historical event from the films/movies ...
Now see it come to "life" through the magic of Playmobil artist Ralf Gemein (http://www.ralfgemein.de/seiten/johndoe.htm)'s amazing custom Klickys!
Ralf has created twenty-eight original "Playmobil sets" that were never produced by Geobra!
Please join us HERE (https://gardenwargaming.com/RalfGemein/Marathon.htm) to see these 28 imaginary sets of Playmobil Klickys from the Battle of Thermopylae.

Hey, Timmy ...
Hey Richard
In your introduction to Ralf Gemein's Greek/Persian customs, you used Marathon and Thermopylae in the same sentence. I guess you meant it could represent either battle?
-Tim
Thank you very much for your excellent question !!!
I did NOT do a very good job with the title of this theme ... :-[
Ralf did not intend for this theme to only represent the Battle of Thermopylea.
I took a bit of "editorial license" because I thought that most folks would be able to easily relate the theme to the "300" cinema presentation.
I realize that i probably should not have done that, as Ralf's beautiful customs really encompass a much broader period of Greek history.
Perhaps a more appropriate title would be "In the time of Marathon (490 BC) and Thermopylea (480 BC)" or maybe even better ... "In the time of the Greco - Persian Wars" (499 BC to 448 BC)
Thanks again, Timmy, for helping to clarify this for everyone.
All the best,
Richard
