another good source for uniforms of the napoleonic war is the "sharpe" series. very good uniforms there and lots of different ones too!
its available on dvd :)

This is a bit OT (and an extremely late post for this topic ), but you just reminded me that I heard a new Sharpe film is coming out in April - the first one for 8 years and it sounds like it will be just as good if not better than the others. :D

It's called Sharpe's Challenge and the story is set in India this time.

Well, let's put it OT (on topic), Sylvia ... ;)

HOORAY !!!

GREAT NEWS !!! Sharpe's back!!!

Thanks for the wonderful NEWS, Sylvia ... :)

All the best,
Richard

I told her she would find me in the U.S. Cavalry.
High, yo, down they go, there's no such word as can't.
We'll ride clean down to hell and back for Ulysses Simpson Grant.

The really good news is that Sean Bean is definitely back in the role of Sharpe! 8)

His best friend, Sergeant Harper, is also still part of the story and being played by the same actor as previously, Daragh O'Malley. :)
Familiar faces and characters, just new scenery.

A brief plot summary for the film can also be found on the IMDB website.

I'm cuurrently reading sharpe's books (finally translated to portuguese) and I have a question: did the rifles wear shakos? I'm under the impression they used barrets (for ex as in the set 4497 but green? anyway, GREAT GREAT CUSTOM!

Hello, ...

It would appear that they wore both the beret and the shako!

BERET

SHAKO

Krystal, please let us know (those of us outside of the UK) if the latest Sharpe episode is every bit as good as we all hope that it's going to be !!!

And, does it look like that it's really going to be a continuing series ...???

Patiently waiting for your report ... ;)

All the best,
Richard

It was smashing! ;D

Lots of action right from the beginning, some unexpected twists and turns, plus the usual touches of sardonic humour that you usually associate with the Sharpe stories. :)

The costumes looked great, and some of the scenery - especially around the palace - is breath-takingly beautiful (including the Indian actresses ;)).  It's located quite high up in the hills and there are fantastic views from the roof.

There is a real cliff-hanger type of ending on the first part - Sharpe has to make a very difficult life and death choice. It seems that whatever decision he makes will have tragic personal consequences, so I am eager to see how that is resolved when they screen the second part this evening .

Can't say anymore as I don't want to spoil it for you. :-X ;)

GREAT NEWS !!!

Thanks for your excellent report, Krystal !

I don't want to read anything about part two, as BBC America has announced that they will air both parts sometime later this year.

This is really strettttttttttttttttttttching my patience ... ;)

Thanks again and all the best,
Richard

The second part has just finished and I do not wish to spoilt it for any one who lives abroad. except so say that it was brilliant. It will be released on dvd in the uk on the 1st of may. And not only that but we also had on ITV3  a behind the scenes making of the show (which also plugged a book about the behind the scenes) also Bernard Cornwall was interviewed and he said he was at work on a new Sharpe novel.

Note of interest is that the indian princess/villian is married to Salmon Rushdie the writter who offended Islam.

Now if only some tv network would pick up on his Civil war novels and make a series of those

Thanks, Craig ...

If you happen to see the DVD after it's released, would you please see if it's PAL specific, or if it's universal? I sent David Hamer a DVD of "The Last of the Mohicans" awhile back and it was NSTC specific, so he was unable to watch it.

Thanks again and all the best,
Richard

I suppose this one coming to Amazon UK wouldn't be any good to you, Richard? :-\

Sharpe's Challenge DVD

Region encoding isn't always a problem if you have a multi-regional player, but it does says PAL in the description. :(

Thank you, Krystal ...

I ordered it from the Amazon link that you provided !!!

If my DVD player isn't universal, I will still be able to play it on my computer ... :)
(Hmmm ... wonder why de Warrens didn't do that with "The Last of the Mohicans") ... ???

All the best and thank you,
Richard
