Hello, Cheng ...

In 1978, Playmobil made the pefect top hat to use for a British Marine (c.1812). This 1800's top hat was included in set 3543! I don't know if it was ever offered in any other set.

We made a mould of it at Garden Wargaming and cast enough for a platoon of British Marines for our ships. (See below)

looks like i wont be making any british marines until i retire then...i can wait :D

another 'silly' question;
how about the british sailors? i've seen a color drawing, they were in smart navy blue vests (and not light blue shirts) firing their ship's cannon (i didnt save the picture)?

While Officers had them from about 1750, ordinary British sailors were not issued with uniforms until 1857.

What pictures before 1857 show is what some Captains provided for their crews themselves - it was not official issue and it could be any colour the Captain wanted.

While blue was the most usual, one Irish Captain had his boat's crew in green and the Captain of HMS Blazer is supposed to have had his dressed in jackets with stripes which is why striped jackets are still called "blazers" in England to this day.
