Hello,
Stéphane ...
Because I live in the "New World," most of us here think that there were TWO "colonial" periods.
The
first colonial period is the one that you call, "Moderne (1600-1800)." To most "New Worlders," this "Moderne" period actually began in the 1500's with the coming of the Spanish Conquistadores. Then continued with the arrival of the English, French and Dutch explorers and settlers. It was also a time for Pirates and other opportunists.
The
second colonial period might actually be the one that you have labled "Colonial." This was the time of the European Imperial expansion during the time of Queen Victoria and up to the First World War. Most of the "civilized" nations seemed to have participated in this incredible "world land grab."
In today's world, it is not politically correct to say that one really approves, or even likes, these two historical periods. However, I have never been known to be "politically correct." ...

However, that said ... I would like to refer everyone to my friend
David Helber who has expressed my feelings on this subject much better than I ever could:
"

It's nothing but a few guys having some mildly goofy fun with toy soldiers."
