Help! French drummers`uniform during the / years war.
« on: July 12, 2005, 05:50:33 pm »
As the title suggests, I`m searching for illustrations of French drummers´ uniforms for the Seven Year War/ French & Indian War.

NEC PLURIBUS IMPAR is a very useful website:

                http://vial.jean.free.fr/new_npi/

but has no illustrations of drummers. For many of the regiments it just says,´ Tambours à la livrée du Roi ..` So, what did they look like??

Many thanks to anyone who could help. :)

Hello, David ...

As you know, ALL of my stuff is currently in transit from Texas to the Canadian northwest. When it arrives, I may have the answers to your uniform request for a French drummer's uniform. In the meantime, maybe some of our French members will be able to assist you.

All the best,
Richard

Well: some french regiment weared the "livrée du roi" but not all.

The "livrée du roi" was a blue/grey (like french guard uniforme) color cloth but with lot of "chained" ribons (withe and crimson color)
You could see the result on my own miniatures page

I will trying to find the details.

Here a good site about the "compagnies franches de la marine" (free's marine compagnies) who fighting in Quebec during the seven years war (SYW).
But the page about the musician is not available  :?

I try again to find something else but I've got many things here in my home but no scanner to give you some images.

Thanks for your help Richard & Stéphane. :D

I decided to try making the a few soldiers of the `Regiment Languedoc´, because they were involved in a lot of the action during the French & Indian War. I found the uniforms and flags, but not for the drummer ... yet. I´m still making the first figure so there´s plenty of time. :D

All the best,
David

PS. Very nice figures Stéphene, did you paint them? Is that part of your hobby?

David,

While I am always eager to see your uniforms, if you are beginning on the French & Indian War I cannot wait to see your indians! ;)

Thanks David, I had a great birthday - 40 quite snuck up on me! ;) I didn't get a new pirate ship - but I did get an old one! :D

(A coworker gave me a box of Playmo that had belonged to her nephew - including most of an old galleon and part of the dragon temple! - so now I have the raw material for another converted ship. I have several ideas... ;) )

I am very happy that you said that, Henry, because I would also like to see David's Woodland Indians ...   :D

A couple of Iroquois (or Mohawks) would make a GREAT birthday present ...

Richard

The film "the last of the mohican" was a great one for uniforms! all is good, even the grenadier from the 60th with is fur cap (the only one at this time). French uniform, flag are corect even in size. It's a very good reconstitution film. You cuold probably found what you want inside ;) because AWI is too late for you. (and sorry Paul, but the patriot is not very good for uniform usefull, french uniform was not like those in the film)
