Carthaginian Sacred Band Cavalry
« on: June 22, 2008, 03:40:32 PM »
The Carthaginian Sacred Band was the city of Carthage's elite cavalry.  The Sacred Band was drawn up from the young men of the wealthy families and doubled as an officer training institution.  Presumably, after gaining experience and showing their ability within the Sacred Band the men were farmed out to officer the mercenary companies.

My source is from Osprey's "Carthaginian Wars" illustrated by Richard Hook.

The paint job didn't turn out as nice as I had hoped.
In a nutshell, I took the shoulder-mail off a Roman add-on and painted it to double as the Carthaginian shoulder armor.  According to the description, this armor doesn't represent metal, but stiffened linen.

The helmet is a "best fit".  I thought it looked more Greek than the Roman helmet.

Note also the blank red shield.

That's a nice custom, Tim!  I actually think the paint job came out pretty good.
