scottish prototypes galore
« on: November 26, 2007, 11:03:52 AM »
Everything still very protoype. I hope to inspire a few others.

I searched for parts/ways to build kilts that are stable and need no glueing.

'Solution' 1, jacobite/highland style:

a taylored white roman toga (which still has to painted  :P), usage of other parts for this purpose was invented by - needless to say - specialist

'Solution 2', 19th century:

A cut green torso (footballer's legs were first used by graf georg, to quote the sources this time). It fits fine on normal legs but has still to be hollowed a bit to be put on the footballer legs (from this result the whitish stress marks on the side).

There are torsos even more suitable, esp. without printed belt. But the color is fine.

Hello, Michael ...

You are really doing a splendid job with your Scottish customs!

It would appear that you are about to eclipse the Highlanders created by GW!
please click on picture below for larger graphic

Michael, are you making moulds and casting copies of your helmet (topi) and your kilt and legs? Or, are you making each one individually?

Thanks for sharing.

All the best,
Richard

Hey Michael !
looks like you've found the 'more Playmo way'(less non-playmo materials)e to customise this theme....
now it makes me want to try a couple myself(except for the painting :P )

ok..at first sight i scringed at your cutting of the expensive toga...but well...i've been cutting playmo parts myself lately  ;)

yes...i do like your PM-skirt idea...
noticed you cut your winchester's what-you-call-that-reload-lever

and Richard....Michael has perhaps made the bridge to GW's Highlanders(the GW Highlanders is something so awesome that i could never attempt)

interesting way of customizing a cilt henry! I have also thought of different ways to build some cilts with alomost always poor results. It is an easy but nevertheless good way to use the soccers' legs for this. According to the first Scotsman I have to admit that I will probably give it a try too! all in all good work!!!!

Amazing custom 8). A very good idea, but i think it is a very cruel way to customize scots infantry. For each new clicky, you must destroy another one? :'(
Have fun with the "p"

Not too soon and surely not eclipse. They were always something I wanted to have, after seeing them. How did you make their kilts?

I am building a model for the helmet in a lengthy two step forward and one and a half back process. So this topee is already casted but i am not yet content enough to start 'mass production' (as said everything is very prototype).  And I hope to improve the cutting process of the kilt so that i will not need to cast it. From actual experiences I recommend to shape rather the footballer's legs (provided he shall never be as such assembled again) than to scratch too much inside of the 'kilt'  :P

Yes. In fact I need three because there is the footballer involved, too. I try always to avoid it, but in this case it will not be possible and it will be as difficult to find another use for the footballer's parts as it is difficult to find the figure on the fleamarkets.

I put in here the link to Graf Georg's solution in customize-it! for another, less destructive approach. http://www.playmo-convention.de/board/viewtopic.php?t=868

@all: Thank you. :D

Hello, Michael ...

How did you make their kilts?

First  a "master" figure was created. Then a mould was made and the figures were cast.

Thank you very much for the link to Graf George's beautiful Napoleonic Highlanders!

thank you Richard & Michael !

...so much more to learn and i do feel strong magnetism from this highlander theme (but not casting yet..thank God  ;) )

Michael, the red-socked footballer legs are 'split' and are quite unstable(is that another advantage of Graf George using those transparent stands?)
but i dont suppose you'll use the grey goal keeper's legs and paint his socks red ? (cheaper & stabler) :P

btw...those frontal pouches on George's highlanders....are they casted?

With a kilt like the Jacobite Highlanders wearing you could do Highlanders in the Seven Years (aka French & Indian) War.........Ticonderoga.

Where did it come from?

Where did it come from?

It is from the statue of a  roman emperor from the colosseum, etn 30 26 6870.
