Visigoth woman and Roman woman
« on: June 15, 2008, 01:27:28 AM »
I customized the Visigoth woman based on the Osprey book about Germans in the late Roman empire.
The color pattern for the Roman woman came from an illustration from Peter Connolly's book about Pompeii.

I could have done more with the Visigoth--in the illustration, she had a yellow stripe on her tunic neck and around her waist.  I wanted to keep the paint minimal so that the she remained "poseable"--re-painting the top would have required me to paint her arms.

Very nice, Timmy ...

For some reason Playmobil doesn't seem to give us as many civilians for historical themes as they once did.

In the early days, Playmobil created a large (and very attractive) assortment of civilians for their Medieval theme. They also gave us some Western and early 1800s civilians as well.

Today, they almost seem to give us just a "token family" for themes like the Vikings, Romans, etc.

So, thank you for helping to fill the gap, Timmy.

All the best,
Richard

Tim, you're brave to be experimenting with paint, but the results are quite good, I don't see myself becoming quite so adventurous, but, like Richard, I lament that Playmobil makes so few civilians for their historical themes.  The Medieval, Viking, Roman, and Egyptian families are or will be in my collection, but I wish there were more.

I entirely agree with Richard. Unfortunately the times of big civilian themes seem to be over for playmobil, perhaps kids nowadays just aren't as interested anymore, who knows.
All the more respect for you being brave and experimenting! Very nice ideas and I hope to see more!  ;D
I left my love a letter in the hollar of a tree.
I told her she would find me in the U.S. Cavalry.
High, yo, down they go, there's no such word as can't.
We'll ride clean down to hell and back for Ulysses Simpson Grant.
