I have found on the playmoDB site a pith helmet, but it doesn't look right.  I need the ones like the Royal Mountain Artillery have in the Garden Wargaming site.  Taller.  Any ideas on how to make those:)

Hello, Jude ...

The "pith" helmet that you want was made years ago by Marx when they were the Playmobil "licensee" in England. It was actually made as an English policeman's helmet. I made a mould of it, and have cast quite a few out of Alumilte.

Hope this helps ...
Richard

Thanks for the reply,  I would like to know If someone has one of these helmets that I could buy, this would allow me to make a mold of one, and then I can make some helmets myself.  Thanks

Jude

Hello again, Jude ...

Maybe we can make a "trade" since our policy here at GW-PC discourages buying and selling.

Perhaps I could "loan" you a helmet to make a mould and in return you could cast a few extra helmets for my ever growing army ... :?: ...  :)

However, you will have to wait as my entire Playmobil collection is currently enroute from Texas to the Canadian Northwest!

All the best,
Richard

hey Richard!
maybe one of you expert 'moulders' can mould for desperate newer collectors who cant find old parts (like the german policeman spear tipped helmets!)

Q: is that illegal(Geobra's copyright etc) even though its out of production?

then we'll have loads of new customising to do!!!

Both the kilts and the pith helmets were "Home Manufactured."

Hello, Cheng ...

I do not know what the "legality" is regarding the reproduction of Playmobil parts. However, I would suspect that Geobra's copyright is enforceable should they choose to pursue prosecution of any infringement.

Therefore, we all need to be somewhat circumspect about "pirating" anyone else's work.

We are probably "safe' in customizing and converting our Playmobil. We may even possibly be "safe" with the reproductions of our own conversions, if we don't offer them for sale. Regardless, the GW-PC policy prohibits using this site for buying and selling anything!

So, to answer your question, Cheng ... It seems that customizing and converting is a  "good" thing, but reproducing anything that belongs to someone else is a "bad" thing.

So, then ... You might ask, "How is it that we have reproduced the pith helmet?" First, it was not made by Playmobil. Second, the company that made it is no longer in business. And, third, we made one and presented it to Mr. Brandstätter.

I know that this is not the answer that you wanted to your question, Cheng. But, we are all happy to help you in any way that we can.

All the best,
Richard

Thanks for your very comprehensive advice to us all, Richard!
Yes, we must get our ethics & practice correct, as proud customisers :)

i think fact #2 that the company is no longer around sounds reasonable....but lets not rely on reason #3(without #2 :D :D ) ...he'll thank you and then sue your playmo pants off :D :D

i subscribe to proprietry rights
....we have members who casted roman and picklebarb(?) helmets for their private use but it could be ok to exchange them, again for limited private use(any lawyers here? :D i'll be complelled to define these terms :D )
...can someone ask Mr. Brandstätter, for the love of us playmo worshippers :D to turn a blind eye towards reproductions of discontinued parts? but then it may open a flood gate for commercialisation even if GB never need to relaunch those parts....guess i answered this myself :D

lastly...maybe i used the wrong word(i used "we" for the many members i see asking for things like that);

as for me, i dont think i can ever use a casted & painted helmet
...i'll rather use non-playmo parts...(but factory-finished and playmo quality :) )

....somehow, putting on a (maybe not removable!) painted helmet(with casting, some non-unidirectional indentations/protruding details cant be reproduced) makes my klicky scringe

...i change my customs(my mostly reversible armies) whenever i'm bored :)
anyway i'm too far for trade/postal services even if i desperately need pith helmets someday

....i can wait for playmo if it takes forever(just like i am now doing for Romans if its not 2006 :D )

hope i have not unintentionally offended anyone!
do give me a piece of your mind if i did!
good day all!

Wow Richard - those troops are amazing! I had not seen that part of your collection before - thanks for sharing.

And Cheng, I think the bottom line to anything of this nature is common sense - if you are making some helmets for your own use and share a couple with friends I am sure you will not face problems. But if it becomes a mass production effort you may run into resistance...
