Hello, Sylvia ...
Soy esta ... ;)
Please don't "ban" me ... However, you can "delete" me, if you want ... :P
Don't see you much anymore. Thought this might get your attention ... :)
How are you?
All the best,
Richard

Hi Richard ;D
I'm fine. Thank you for asking. ;)
Very busy just now so I'm not spending as much time online. I check the forums daily, but it probably looks like I'm missing because I'm not always stopping long enough to post.
We're expecting overseas visitors this summer and there is a lot that needs to be done around the house. Every time I get one room sorted out, the kids make a mess or wreck something in another one. ::) It's very frustrating!
I've also been spending some time looking after my garden when the weather is nice. It's actually more of a courtyard then a garden because our plot of land is not very big and we don't have any grass to mow. :P Gardening is something I find myself enjoying more and more as I get older, but it does tend to eat up a lot of my "spare" time.
I haven't really been in the mood for customising or taking creative photos recently but hopefully this is just a phase which will eventually pass. ;)

I know what you mean about gardening.
I've been outside everyday in our "garden" (two and half wild acres) and I love it! The weather here has been absolutely beautiful. Too darn nice to be inside playing with Playmobil ... :)

Hello, Sylvia and Hello-Sylvia ...
First of all this is a Playmobil Garden Wargaming website!
However, it was noticed that the two of you were talking about Gardening and Playmobil ... So, perhaps that's all right.
But ... and, this is a BIG but ... you are both in the Spanish Forum writing in English ... ¿Que Pasa?

Not anymore. ;)
I really do envy that view of yours, Richard.*sigh*
I don't have a sea view or even a river view. We're surrounded by houses and fences. :(
But we do live in a nice neighbourhood - the better side of town, not the slightly 'slummy' bit. ;D

ONE THOUSAND FOUR HUNDRED ELEVEN MEMBERS!
Hello, Sylvia ...
I'll bet that most of our members here at GW-PC do not realize that we have had 1411 people "sign up" for membership here at GW-PC!
Since we only have 170 members, that means that you and I have banned and deleted 1241 fraudulent members (spammers)! No wonder we're tired! This is a constant battle.
If any of the members want to thank us for working hard to keep this forum clean and tidy, we would certainly welcome their words of appreciation ... ;)
Regarding the photo of your street ... I love where you live, Sylvia!
It looks almost like a movie set. Everything is so neat and trim. It is the kind of place that I would picture for you and your family. I just can't imagine your tolerating any disorganization or chaos ... :)
All the best,
Richard

Well i would like to say thanks for your hard work in the fight against the spammers. Please keep up the good work. ;)

Now up to One Thousand Four Hundred Thirty-Five ... and counting!
And, we still only have 170 real members!

You allow to express my gratefulness by the management of the forum
But I believe that some administrative tools exist that could serve to reduce to something the undesired thing
Thanks, I know what is to be moderating or administrator of a forum
-
Thanks everyone for the support and kind words. :)

Yes, it is possible to ban IP addresses, e-mails, and so forth to block some spammers from trying to register. We have already banned 293 IPs and 288 e-mail addresses. Many of the e-mails banned are blocks on entire extensions such as *@cashette.com. This blocks any user trying to register with an address ending in that extension and is much more effective than banning specific e-mail addresses.
We have proof that this method is definitely working to some extent. By checking the ban log, it shows that one banned e-mail address (*@*.ru) has had 553 hits to date! Unfortunately, the choice of e-mail and IP is pretty much endless for spammers, so the only way to eradicate them completely is to regularly visit the forum and keep an eye on new members and posts. Both Richard and I check several times a day, but even we have to sleep occasionally! ;D
I think it would be much more helpful if we had some sort of visual verification process included on the registration form. I believe this feature is included on later versions of SMF (the program used by GW-PC), so perhaps we will see a bigger reduction in spam when the forum eventually gets updated to the newest version. :)

"Every time I get one room sorted out, the kids make a mess or wreck something in another one."
So do mine and they're 20 & 24!
-
The spam is a plague and there is no forum out of danger.
Perhaps the solution is the visual verification or validate the new members manually. Unfortunately I have no response to this problem :'(
But Richard and Sylvia are doing a fantastic work and we must be very thankful to enjoy this forum ;)
They have been working for us and it is not easy to maintain this place.
THANK YOU VERY MUCH, RICHARD AND SYLVIA
I would like to be able to help you more than I do, so if you need something I am at your service ;)
-
its so easy to type 'thank you' but its for so much work that goes on behind the scene...so my 2 little words again 'thank you' Richard and sylvia! ;)
-
Thanks to everyone! Thank you, Cheng!
(Cheng, did you miss all the excitement?)
And, a BIG thank you to Sylvia and Yoyei for solving our overwhelming problem with spammers!
From now on, anyone who wants to become a member of GW-PC will have to register at Playmofriends. Sylvia has a wonderful screening system already in place which totally excludes all spammers!
Yoyei has shut down self-registration at GW-PC which will prevent any spammers from ever bothering us again!
I tried the new system today and it works beautifully.
So, thanks to everyone! Now we can enjoy our hobby without the constant interruption of those mindless idiots from the spam world.
All the best to everyone,
Richard

I just wish I could get a decent blocker system for my office. As apparently I am in need of a personal loan, a new mortgage, I am lacking in stama in the bedroom, my new best friend has a great I'm a low-life spammer!/on-line gambling site for me to visit and the old favourite a unknown distant relative has died in Nigera with 100 million left in the bank. It takes me 10 mins each day to get rid of all the stuff
Regards Craig

Hello, Craig,
Google's GMail seems to be the best spam catcher for web-based email.
We have stopped 'em dead here and at PF !!!
But, other than that, I have zero advice other than to hunt 'em down and "neutralize" 'em ... ;)
All the best,
Richard

I am the owner/moderator of a LEGO club site and we have 0 spammers. All new members have their posts moderated for 3 months before they are ok'ed to post unmoderated. It really cuts out spammers who won't join and be checked for months. :)
