Title: OLD PHOTOS
Post by: Richard on April 05, 2007, 12:31:06 AM

Hello, my friends ...

Back in the old days, when digital cameras were in their infancy (my very first one was from Apple and it was called a "QuickTake"), i took some some pictures of my Playmobil.

Beginning today, I am going to begin sharing those Playmobil digital photos of yesteryear ... :)

I will try to post one a day.

Hopefully, I will not bore everyone (some of you may even find it interesting) ... ;)

Please let me know what you think ... :)

All the best,
Richard

Thank you, gentlemen!

Most of the photos were taken about twelve years ago.

We still have ALL of our little Klickys. You can go HERE (http://www.gardenwargames.com/tour/01.html) to see where Garden Wargaming keeps their Playmobil ... :)

Today's "old" photo is:

Thanks for your comments and questions, GaiusIulius ...

The QuickTake (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apple_QuickTake) had a resolution of 640x480 pixels. However, I replaced it with my first digital video camera as soon as they came out! (The "still" photos were much better than the QuickTake (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apple_QuickTake)!) But, none of these "early" cameras can compare to the megapixel wonders that are now available. And, today's digital cameras are even less expensive!

Today's "old" photo is:
"British Marines"

Richard I love the Marines.  I'm thinking of doing one myself.  How did you make the hats.  They're not a standard Playmo part are they?

Hello, Dan ...

Thank you for your kind words about the British Marines ... :)

Yes, those are Playmobil hats (please see attachment). Actually, the Marine hats are Home Manufactured (https://gardenwargaming.com/howto/10.html) duplicates of a top hat from a Playmobil set (3543) depicting a group of early 19th Century travelers (please look at the hat on the figure in the center of the picture of set 3543).

NOTE: The collars and epaulets, cross-belts and cuffs are also Home Manufactured duplicates.

All the best,
Richard

thanks for sharing, Richard!

They are "temporarily" boxed up and stored HERE (http://www.gardenwargames.com/tour/01.html).

Fortunately, we have enough Playmobil so that, so far, we have never had to recustomize any of our customized figures.

Please let me know if there are any klickys (from the "old" photos) that you would like to see and I will try to take some "new" photos this summer.

Thank you for your comments, Cheng.

All the best,
Richard

Hello, Dan ...

As far as I know, this top hat was ONLY available in set 3543 (see new attachment) which is quite old.

All the best and good luck,
Richard

Hello, Cheng ...

The sailor's straw hat with ribbon was available in several sets during the 1980s (see attachment). The black shoes were painted on the white legs. And, the blue jacket came from the victorian soldier (see attachment).

All the best,
Richard

Hello, GaiusIulius ...

good observation & question Micheal!  ;)

and Richard,
these old customs are treasures!
i'm still very curious whether these customs are still in this form today...arent you going to tell us?  ;D

when i was plastic-scale-modelling, i was one time crazy over vehicles with red crosses.  :) ....and i like the ambulance men AND the nurses..

a lot of retired parts are needed for anyone like me to recreate your arab themes too....i can only amire and hope someday PM reissues these!

perhaps i might see something that i can follow...i need some new ideas which i have parts for  ;D
carry-on Richard!

Thank you, Cheng ...

Yes, all of these "customs" are still the way they appeared in the photographs!

I realize that many parts that were used in these customs are no longer available through Playmobil. I am hoping that someday Garden Wargaming will be able to offer "master copies" of these parts so that everyone will have the opportunity to duplicate them through their own HOME MANUFACTURE (https://gardenwargaming.com/howto/10.html)!

Since everyone seems to enjoy "Tel El Kebir" and the Egyptian Army, today's "old" photos are:
"The Egyptian Army at Tel El Kebir"

your pictures are a serious inducement to intensify my resin experiments to overcome certain logistical problems.

impressive what you created with the comparatively few parts that existed then.

i am looking forward to seeing more pictures

....

i'll be waiting and watching with envy......maybe more of jealousy  ;D
(really against my own rules using die-casted parts but you all might just make me change my mind  ;)  )

and my dear Richard,
these 'old' customs....so heart tugging...
lately i've been starting to regret painting shoes on those old-type legs (i did to every old-type klicky for my knghts and ACW themes  :P )

but i might also be the first 'un-customiser' washing off their painted shoes someday(not easy because i sprayed at least 3 layers to make them look factory-finished) ..somehow these old customs brings back those days of good-old-klickies (almost every new torsos released today are now painted on....i really dread the ones with painted beast plates...like those spaniards coming with the new lighthouse set...but i also know that i can put belts over them and also those romans etc  :D )

Some "newer" photos of:
"The Arabs, Dervishes and Egyptians"
Title: Re: OLD PHOTOS
Post by: henry_martini on April 13, 2007, 01:54:12 AM
were the germans directly involved? the turko-egyptian army was equipped with krupp guns, so there was some instruction to be given. also some parts of egyptian uniforms look prussian. can you tell us something about them?

the more often i see the your dervishes the more i like your idea of using the old female torso. it is a part that i would have seen as one of the least usable for our purposes. :D. maybe it should be used for chengs boxers too.   ;)

i would also like to see more of the group with the photographer in the forest on the left edge of arab2.jpg. people from india?

....

spot on Michael  ;)
i'm slowly trying to accept fixing female arms on male klickies  :P
and here you are suggeting i use female torsos for my boxers  ;D
yes...i dont mean to just showcase my customs...i always look forward to ideas for improvement from great customisers like yourself  :D
fantastic idea, Michael & Richard....i must in future consider the 'old' female torsos as an option(they are of no use and i swopped them with the fat torsos from my knights' theme..so for now, they hide behind 'fat' breast plates....to become useful again someday thansk to your revelation  :)

and Richard, i actually wished all of your these pictures were taken with today's camera....thats why i asked if they are still intact (short of asking/suggesting that new pics be taken again someday...each theme deserves a new thread on it own)

yes, read my mind again...many unasked questions eg "german officers....both same torso? not the same as the older calvary torsos with just 2 row of yellow buttons? the other non-picklehaube cap is oiriginal right? or made by cutting off the shades from a police cap?...too many questions....didint want to drag this thread

just carry on Richard! and thanks  ;)

i am especially envious of 5508 on picture 9.  ;D

and what is playmopeople? are there also soldiers? i could imagine to customize the figure into a large dervish using your ideas.

thank you for the insight.
