Title: North and South
Post by: Outlaw on March 11, 2007, 04:54:36 PM
For the Wild West and Civil War fans, which army do you like better? (North or South).  This question does not mean which side do you take "in real life", but rather which army/troop do you feel is more nicely detailed/design by Playmobil?

One criticism with the South/Confederate troops has been the use of the yellow on the hats and accessories.  I've always thought it adds a nice element of color.  The North/Blue Union uniforms seem to be more detailed (ranks/medals, etc.).

Share your thoughts, NORTH or SOUTH?

I chose north because they have those nice boots and shirt. The rebs don't really have the "rebel look" in them.

I chose South, just because they seem to be more rare.  If I'm not mistaken, Playmobil discontinued the Southern troops long before other Western sets.    I also collect Lego Wild West and Lego never made Confederate troops.  I'm glad that Playmobil had offered them.

Hi  ;D,
although I have choosen a federal general for nick name, the design of the confederal fellows I like more. They are more accurate concerning their equipment and unit color type (blue for infantry and yellow for cavalery).

My favourite are the southern troops. You can be more creative when you customized them.

There used to be a program called 'sticker printer', I used it to make stickers and recolored the Northern LEGO soldiers torsos to make Confederate troops using dark gray torsos.

Personally, I prefer the southern troopers, though i tend to costumize them more! tHE Union Infantry (the special) isn't that great, because of the yellow colour! seems more of a cavalry man!

Well, in the end i love them both!!!! ;)

hard to decide, but just for accuracy of uniform i would have to go for the yankees. at least u can change the colour from yellow (cavalry) to blue (infantry). the problem with the confederate troops is, the original reb officers had rank insignias on their uniform sleeves and collars, not shoulder pads like the union troops. so that is a problem very difficult to overcome with "soft"-customisation.
however i am glad playmobil actually produced confederate troops and i luv both specials (and must say i like the confederate special more!  :-[  ;D)

Sorry Flash, but for my knowledge, playmobil has end their production of the two specials "Union Soldier" and "confederate soldier". The only place where you can buy the figures today is ebay. When you have a lot of money. Then there are only the few figures which you can order about the direct service. If you have other possibilities, pleeeaaassse tell us.

i am afraid u r right leblanc and i am sorry if my post gave u that impression.
i was speaking in the past tense ;) what i meant to say was i am still enjoying them (since i secured a few packs when they were still available ;)).
however on a sidenote, a member from the german playmobil board posted - not too long ago - that he managed to secure a few packs of both soldiers a few weeks ago in a german supermarket for 1.20 €!  :o that info did shock me, but i cannot remember what supermarket-chain it was :(

I'd love to come across some of the old sets.  This happens very rarely to me, and when it does, they are usually city sets that were not very popular.

OOOps, you are right flash, you speaked in past tense. ::) I think some kind of hope speak out of me. :'( But i`m sure that playmobil will produce a new western theme in the next two years.

Look at the specials series:
Each new theme can and has been tested here. Like the romans or the barbarian. In the past we had the two civil war figures and now a new cowboy one. I`m right or i`m right? ;)

i really hope u r right too, but again i heard the opposite rumour :(
a member from the german board went to the toyfair in february and actually met playmobil representitives there. he asked about the chances for a new western theme and they told him there wont be a western theme in the near future, simply because the children do not demand it, meaning children put more focus onto the city life, etc. themes. of course i cannot vouch for the member's claims but i have to say it would - unfortunately - make sense. kids nowadays - sadly enough - dont seem to be too keen about cowboys and indians. :(

Please do!I just wrote a letter to playmobil
asking for a Napoleonic theme, this is what it
said:

I would really like a new Napoleonic theme. You could bring
out the hats from special 5577 again. You could make different
imprints on the tall hats from 7675 redcoats. There could also be
new flags and a new figure add-on set for the French. Also you
could make the gun carriage from 3784 confederate artillery
again. You could make a larger version of the 3055 schooner
ship with more crew. You could also make a new Napoleon
special too. You could also bring back the 3544 set except
with the new legs and hands. You could also bring back the
color sets 3606,3601,3608, and 3609 so kids could make their
own regiments. You could make the hat, figures and horses from
5580 again. You could also use the roman gold helmets, red feather
from the roman special 4632 and the armor from the roman soldiers
in 4270 arena for Napoleonic cuirassiers. You could also make a set
with green soldiers from 3859. Also if you brought back the old
framework houses a lot of people would buy them for town battles
and back rounds. Please make this a theme a lot of kids will enjoy
it and it will make you lots of money.

I totally agree.  Everyone interested in this period should reply and let PM know how many are interested and are willing to purchase these sets if PM reissues them.
