We have always thought that someday we might actually do the BATTLE OF TEL EL KEBIR (https://gardenwargaming.com/wargame/tek.html) using Playmobil figures and wagons. Maybe one of these days ... ;)

by special request (and not quite in line with my rules ;)) i changed one of the legionaries. i took a shopping bag which is at least plastic.

the cap is original pm, but very old, probably from one of the first sets, there is also a red, a blue and one with wide orange stripes, so they should not be too rare :D
recently there was a group of four white on ebay for weeks, but as i looked up now they were sold :'(

none of the PM knapsacks i bought are suitable...too big...those backpacks of those old TV crews are still the most suitable PM parts...hope they re-issue them someday ;D

The blue belt :
It makes its apparition in the Units of the expedition corps in Algeria in 1830 until 1882. The wool belt, was originally worn by African corps to protect their stomach from infections.
Since 1881, the blue belt (4.20 m long and 40 cm width) has been added to the parad uniform, worn over it as a distinctive sign of the French Foreign Legion.

- there are also smaller (old and colored :P) bags for schoolchildren, which might be eligible as knapsacks for the equipment of some units in size and shape. for those a way to fix them loosely has to be found

his patches remind me of the vintage Hobo...his hair is original PM? ..and i like the Lego spear too ;)

As you know, Michael, for a long time now we have thought about recreating the BATTLE OF TEL EL KEBIR (https://gardenwargaming.com/wargame/tek.html) using Playmobil figures and wagons. However, it's beginning to look more and more like that you might actually beat us to it ... :)

(We are secretly hoping that you pass us by, because we would really like to see Tel el Kebir done with Playmobil.)

I know a chap who's a wargamer who bought back a bag of sand from Egypt when he went there on holiday ("How did you get it through customs?" "No problem. The guy was a wargamer too. He understood.") as a result, his group wargamed Tel-el-Kebir on a sand table using sand from the actual battlefield.

I have 5 kepis, 3 pairs of white gaiters and enough red trousers. I am not sure about the rilfe and the bulk of blue torsos and acw other stuff is stored away presently.

my FFL just changed to red trousers when I transferred them to Peking 1900
...now your FFL have donned red trousers and look like Zouves in Africa to me 8)
were Zouves in Africa later referred to as the French Foreign Legion ??? or were they in Africa at a different timelime with distiguishable uniforms?

I intended to build a common post premiere empire 19th century french line infantrist as shown here (http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_SH2iJHS2LjA/Sp6SRA5dHI/AAAAAAAAFH0/PYjxF2a36cg/s1600-h/Foundry+FPW+painting+guide002.jpg).
I had to notice (again :-P) that they had two button rows which makes it easier for me atm to get a few more pm torsos :D. This uniform was used more or less until the ww1 when it turned out (as in other armies too) that colorful dress is not equally useful under all conditions.
Zuaves (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zouave) were a north west african tribe from which people were recruted (sepoys/askaris in british resp. german terms). They used a kind of 'traditional' dress as uniform. Here too red trousers were used, but wider ones (difficult to render in pm), as well as fancy vests and headwear. This style got such a popularity that regiments dresssed al la mode zuave were set up in other armies too. Hence e.g. the plethora of acw zuave units.
The FFL recruted european people mainly from foreign countries hence the name. Red trousers were used by them sometimes too but i would rather give them white ones and the kepi blance.

Yes, the LE white kepis... I did not find an authorative answer yet. My guess is that their hats were red, but they had rather 'soon' those white covers. That's how we see them on many pictures. Apart from that it is possible that we see mostly pictures from the 20ies or later that make up our minds. The real kepi blanc might have been introduced only in the 20ies. Maybe someone else can enlighten us.

I had the chance to gather a few brand new parts at the LuxPlaymoDays (http://www.tricornejock.com/phpBB3/gallery/album.php?album_id=808) in Clemency.
My first thing to do at home was to check if the red trousers from the new pirate sets fit better with the white gaiters. :D

Sorry for being obscure. This is a combination of old PlayBig parts (haversack, kepi, rifle and bayonett) and some normal pm. The new part here (I have a few more ;D) is the red trouser of the right one that allows to put a white rubber hose (http://playmodb.org/cgi-bin/showpart.pl?partnum=30-80-6072) as gaiters without adding to their diameter (see the left one). I have to get a few more before they all become zuave legs in other peoples collections. ::)
