Ahoy Stéphane!

(I moved your post from the general thread and put it here because it relates to rules for battles.)

I have used the Little Wars rules a couple of times, but no for anything major. I also tried my hand at making my own rules (posted in another thread) for Pirate battles, but I was not very satisfied, so I am looking for another alternative.

Along a similar line, has anyone used role-playing rules with Playmobil?

(sorry to have put my message in the wrong place)

Some friend of mine use the "cry havoc" system rule with their playmobil (one to one rules) but they need load of material (big hexagones)

hello,

for my part, i play with lord of the rings rules( by gamesworkshop), profiles are good, you can have heroes and some veteran unit if you change caracteristic, as +1 in defense, or +1 attaque etc......, it's for me the top for middle age wargames, you have just one thing to do, is to choise the scale for deplacement.
For other periods, i don't know really, because i try with secession war, and it's very difficult with guns........so dbm is probably one of the top, but only for little war!!
at next time stephane.
Title: HG WELLS LITTLE WARS RULES ...
Post by: Richard on May 27, 2005, 03:42:21 PM
Of course (as you might expect) I am an HG Wells LITTLE WARS (https://gardenwargaming.com/wargame/intro.html) fan ...

The rules are simple (like me) and (in my opinion) that's what makes them fun!

Strategy and role playing games take a lot of thought (which I seem to have little of) therefore, I prefer just having a good time as illustrated by our first (and so far, our last) International Garden Wargame (https://gardenwargaming.com/wargame/wargames/oliver.html)!

My friend Livio in Cologne has published his Blumenfeld Gazette (http://www.livio.mynetcologne.de/little_wars/newsenglish.html) (which illustrates his lighthearted HG Wells LITTLE WARS garden wargames (http://www.livio.mynetcologne.de/little_wars/gardenwargame/gardenwargamenglish.html) with Playmobil).

So for some fun and a good time, I strongly recommend an occasional wagame (outside in the garden) using HG Wells LITTLE WARS (https://gardenwargaming.com/wargame/LW39.html)! ... :)

All the best,
Richard

LITTLE WARS is perfectly suited for "wargaming" with playmos. Wells' recommendations for playing with toy soldiers and 4.7 guns can be perfectly transferred to playmo soldiers and US artillery guns.

SHAMBATTLE  or How To Play With Toy Soldiers (Anno 1929) seems to be well suited for fun with plamos as well. Look here:

Thank's for posting this link livio.

Just read the arab-french battle-report. Sounds as if these rules could easily be adapted for a playmo battle. I especially like the idea of the field hospitals. I have never even thought of them before.

Are we just talking about Land wargames rules, or naval rules also ?

I think is it safe to discuss any rules for wargaming that can be used with Playmobil figures - whether on land or sea, or even air (maybe some space combat rules using the astronauts?).

Hello,

I played some battels with my son using the garden wargame ruels. It's simply and we have a lot of fun. Everyone uses about 30 figures.

But I am looking for a system to bring in the fire of hand-guns. On this weekend I will make some tests with laserpointers. I think so I can simulate the hits of fire-arms  :?

What a great idea! Please let us know how it works. (Though I think my kids may be a little young to trust with laser pointers yet, I think the idea is very interesting and has great potential.)

During the Christmas holidays I used our large collection of medieval playmobils to play a little fantasy role playing game for our kids (4.5 and 6.5 years old).
I had set-up a tower, a village, a forest, a few ruins, etc. with people to talk to, enemies and monsters to fight , treasures to find, etc.

I improvised a very simple game mechanics and it worked just fine for them:

Characters have "life stones" (little glass gems) to represent their "hit points". I made them start with three stones. They gained 2 more stones after having completed a few quests. I also allowed mounted character another temporary stone to give them an advantage. The foes they encountered had between 3 and 8 life stones.

Attacks are rolled with red dices. 1 dice per weapon (so that would be one or two attack per klicky).
The dice size is dependant on the weapon and the strength of the attacker.

d4 for dagger and wooden clubs
d6 for most weapons such as sword, spears, axes, bows, etc.
d8, d10, d12, d20 for magic weapons, spells, strong guys and big monsters (e.g. maybe d20 for dragons)

Defense is rolled with blue dices. 1 dice per item of defense.

1d6 free for dodging (maybe 1d8 for quick people / animals)
1d6 per shield, helm, breastplate, set of arm armor, set of leg armor
Magic armor items use d8 instead.

Attacker designate their target
All attackers roll their red die or dices
Defender rolls all his/her blue dices
A blue dice roll with a higher number than the red dice blocks that attack. Otherwise the attack hits and the target loses a life stone.
Then the defender(s) -if not vanquished- attack and attackers defend.
When an opponent is out of life stone, he is vanquished.

As, you can see. Nothing very fancy or complicated here. It would not work for large scale combat, but we managed some epic fights with up to 7 characters without much problem.
------------------------------------------------------

I made them a little scenario where they had to deliver their princely brother who had been captured by the evil black knight. To know where their brother was being held captive, they had to ask a woodland fairy that requested that they do four good deeds before she would give them any help. So they killed a wolf that was terrorizing a shepherd, they returned a goat that had been stolen by a goblin, they captured a wanted highway brigand and returned goods that a group of bandits had stolen. After that, the fairy told them were the castle of the evil knight was (in the master bedroom :))  and where to find a magic sword to fight the evil knight (in a crypt guarded by a skeleton knight), where to find a magical instrument to put the dragon to sleep (in the tower of a witch) and where to find a key to open the gate of the castle (in the ruins of a keep guarded by a ghost rider).

There was a inn were they could rest, sale their loot, purchase armor, weapons and horses, and hire the help of a knight to help them during their first few quests (because they started with only a knife and no armor).

With this story and game mechanics (plus a lot of playmobil stuff), I managed to hold their attention for more than 4 hours straight. Considering their age, this is quite amazing.

I should have taken pictures…
