Title: Help! One of my US cavalrymen has gone AWOL!
Post by: Sylvia on July 09, 2006, 10:22:31 AM
I am trying to complete set 3811 (http://www.playmobil.de/is-bin/INTERSHOP.enfinity/eCS/Store/de/-/DEM/PM_ArchivDisplayProductInformation-Start;sid=Tqrf_ry_OpDf0_gP-VscceBqww8Gu031iM4=?CategoryName=1995&ProductSKU=3811&PLS=0) which I bought loose on eBay a couple of months ago.

I have managed to obtain all but one missing item from the DS. The figure I need is no longer available. :(

If anyone has a spare of the red-haired soldier (http://www.justforklicks.com/j4k/set_pics/3811.jpg) (with no gloves) that they are willing to trade, please get in touch. :)

Hello, Krystal ...

Watcha got to trade ??? ... ;)

Er.... I don't have very many spare soldiers but I do have hats, weapons, and many small pieces that could be useful for building armies. Maybe I should check.... :-[

Not sure. That should only happen if there is a size limit in place, and I didn't think there was. ???

All I can tell you is that there is an admin option which (if selected) gets the software to automatically resize avatars which are larger than the allowed maximum. ;)

hey Krystal, cant you just look for the hat and change his hair-piece?

I already have the hat and the yellow cuffs, so it's only the fig I need. ;)
I noticed that the dark-haired soldier has beige gloves whereas the other 2 do not. I'm a bit of a stickler for  completing sets as accurately as possible. :P

He has "freckles," Cheng ... ;)

I couldn't tell for certain from the pics if he had freckles or not. :)
Quite often the red-haired figures do, but I don't think the one in this auction (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/PLAYMOBIL-Nordstaatler-mit-Pferd-aus-Set-3811-10957_W0QQitemZ150001814481) has them. Or does he?? Difficult to tell when the photos are so small. :-\

Hee hee. :D

I have just been looking through all the "Nordstaatler" listings on eBay.de and came across this one (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Playmobil-Nordstaatler-Soldatin-Gewehr-Tasche_W0QQitemZ6066197610) for a "Soldatin"! ;D

Hello, Krystal ...

There always seems to be a someone out there for each strange combination ... :)

Just think if Ralf were to put put his fantastic customs on eBay rather than the amateurish concoctions that find their way to auction ...  :o

All the best from beautiful Vancouver Island,
Richard

Hi Krystal,

I have the red haired, freckeled face cowboy from the add-ons catalog.
I've got to go through my box of 300+figures to see if I have the right cavalry soldier...I need to clean that out anyway.

Best regards,

Jimbo

"I'm a bit of a stickler for  completing sets as accurately as possible"
i share the same feeling/rules Krystal !
i think you will have no problem finding the head of a freckled boy...he's one of my favourites...i am sure you're quite close to getting 'one of him'  ;) ..dont waste too much money on ebay!

why is it that only blonde/red haired boys'girls get freckles?  :D (i swop hair pieces for my klickies but never for my freckled boys...they make good drummers for my ACW :)

hey RICHARD! i didnt recognise you...is there a thread for your transformation? why have you given up your 'royalty' for a job in the wilderness....its too humbling my dear friend...i'll take some time to adjust to that  ;D

No, there isn't, Cheng. There's a thread at Playmofriends (http://www.playmofriends.com/forum/index.php?topic=743.msg10788#msg10788), but not here!

If you are not a member of Playmofriends, you may not be able to see the pictures. If, for some reason, you don't want to join Playmofriends, let me know and I'll post the pictures here.

All the best,
Richard

I think the 'Mountie look' really suits him! Love that uniform! :D

I think the 'Mountie look' really suits him! Love that uniform! :D

i think even a birthday suit will look fantastic on Kenny Rogers (thats what i imagine Richard to look like...not the suit but his face  ;D (is there a picture of you somewhere Ro...er...i mean Richard?  :D

as for playmofriends...i think i'm not contributing enough as it is...i need to find more time to read other threads...welcome members etc....i know i have to try to shorten my posts tho...that'll give me more time to get more involved :P

with more english-speaking forums, sometimes they get really really quiet, and we have to repeat our almost identical articles, sometimes getting confused should the thread get too long...anyway i suppose variety is good for more reasons..no complaints

so Richard, are you customising mounties big-time? i really like them too but i have to restrict my themes or my father-in-law will lecture me again  :-[

Hi Krystal,

I did not have one in the figure box..However, is the red haired klickey
in add on set 7047 like the one you need?

Best regards

Jimbo

Thanks for looking, Jimbo. :)

No, the soldiers from this particular set had a different uniform to those guys. There are no buttons, just two broad, vertical yellow stripes down the front of the torso. I think they're supposed to represent braces.

Krystal, worse comes to worse, you'll have to buy the northerner with braces from US DS and change to a head with freckles, right?

and Richard,
you can be Gen.Lee if you need to change avatar again  :D
good to 'see' you!  ;D (sorry Krystal for digressing)

You mean this fig in the Fort Reno set?
http://www.playmodb.org/cgi-bin/showpart.pl?partnum=30-00-5730

I could do that, I suppose, but I'd still have to find a correct pair of arms as that klicky has beige coloured gloves, while my red-haired chap does not. ;D (I'm quite useless at swapping the hands - always end up cracking the wrists. :P)

Don't mention it! I enjoy the digressions. ;)

You are correct, Krystal ...

Yes, they are supposed to be wearing "braces' (suspenders) over their shirts. This was common practice in the Hollywood movies (films) of the 1940s. The John Wayne film "She Wore a Yellow Ribbon" is a good example.

Other than cost, I don't understand why Playmobil didn't continue the braces on the back of the figure ... ???

BTW ... The braces should be off white (not yellow) ... ;)

All the best,
Richard

you know, Krystal, i never noticed they are supposed to be gloves until after a couple of years later...by which time i had already been swapping their arms around so much so that i dont know who had those gloved hands  :P swop arms...dont swop hands!
(i always thought they just had darker hands  ;D )

and Richard, i really appreciate your thoughts on those braces...i have often wondered about them, the color and how they looked like from behind
 :D

we know older klickies dont have prints behind...its quite frustrating for customisers and i have been spraying or taping them ever since(i have shown most of my sprayed backs in all my themes.

of course some of these klikies have coats or capes over their backs..
these 'digressions' are good ya?

and Richard, another problem i have is their shirt tail that sticks out behind below their belts....when trying to complete their backs(i know some members paint the section below their belts to match their pants but this is against my own rules) what's your opinion?

thanks for letting me 'digress' Krystal ;)

here's a picture of one of my earliest customs...

wow interesting thread. richard is revealed (as hemingway-style gentlemen none the less ;)) and u posted some great pics from one of my all time fav. she wore a yellow ribbon :D
i suppose the main reason for not continuing the braces on the backs of the figures is a simply cost reason. it would porbably cost a lot not onyl to print the front but also the back of the figures, which of course is a pity.
back to topic though, i think i might be able to help u krystal. i have obtained quite a few 3815 sets so i am sure to have the fellow u r looking for.
let me know if u r still in need and if u are i will go find him for u ;)

Yes, I'm still searching for the red-haired cavalryman! Thanks, Flash! :D
That would be great if you have a spare. Hopefully, I have something that you need and we can make a trade. :)

Hi Krystal

I just picked up a loose set on ebay. I was after the black trooper so that I can convert to an ACW Michigan regiment. therefore my red headed man is a spare. but he has no freckels and ordinary hands as oppose to riding cloves kind regards Craig. PS I am after the black cavalry tropers arms

Hi Craig!

Thanks for the offer, but I'm currently working out a trade with Flash. ;)

I don't have any spare black troopers, so I wouldn't have been able to help you there anyway. :(

Hopefully, someone else at GW-PC can. :)

I'm glad that it brings back happy memories for you, Craig.
And it makes a nice change from my beaver avatar at PlaymoFriends, right? ;)

I'd like to make some more women in uniform, but I'm not in a particularly creative mood at the moment.

"Goodbye, Krystal" ...  :'(

With a tear in our eye.
We say our goodbye.

Our Krystal was fun
Not a care in the world
Must she really run?
We loved that girl!

She winked and flirted,
With all of us here
Could outdrink us all
Liquor, wine or beer.

Sylvia's now come
To take her place.
Our Krystal's gone.
And, we've a sad face ...  :(

We'll miss you, Krystal ... (http://www.gardenwargamer.com/images/wave.gif)

Thank you for the poem, Richard. :D :-*

I've only dropped the old name, not the whole persona. ;) I thought it might be less confusing for people, since I use my real name at PlaymoFriends.

I could perhaps change it again and have a combination of both names?? ;D

Flash is absolutely correct!

My error !!!

And, my apologies ...  :-[

I just looked again at the new, unopened box that I have and at first glance it looks like freckles because of the reflection. However, there are no freckles on this figure. So, Sylvia got her man (not her boy) ... ;)

The "loose" figure that I have in my US Cavalry box does have freckles. Which means that I must have changed heads years ago thinking that the bugler should be a boy and not a man ... :)

I'm glad that we have that all cleared up and happy that you finally got your man, Sylvia! (Do you want to "borrow" my mountie uniform?)  ... :)

All the best,
Richard

Just to help/add to the confusion (Not the Richard/Rogers one) I have been busy buying the cavalry patrol of ebay recently as I am after the ethnic cavalry trooper.
I intend to build a North Michigan Regt. after the film Glory. I used to look like a young Mathew Broderick myself. And so far not one of the gingers has had freckles. So you can look forward to several pieces going back on ebay once I have taken the arms and head away. At the rate I am going will make make the Ethnic cavalry trooper a very rare figure (I have 3 dismanteld so far)
