another good source for uniforms of the napoleonic war is the "sharpe" series. very good uniforms there and lots of different ones too!
its available on dvd :)
This is a bit OT (and an extremely late post for this topic :oops:), but you just reminded me that I heard a new Sharpe film is coming out in April - the first one for 8 years and it sounds like it will be just as good if not better than the others. :D
It's called Sharpe's Challenge (http://www.southessex.co.uk/main.htm) and the story is set in India this time.

i really enjoyed the series! i hope they will get the old crew together (including sean bean!). although since this is set in india (i presume before the napoleonic wars?) i dobut we will see anythign of harper or the choosen men :(

The really good news is that Sean Bean is definitely back in the role of Sharpe! 8)
His best friend, Sergeant Harper, is also still part of the story and being played by the same actor as previously, Daragh O'Malley. :)
Familiar faces and characters, just new scenery. :wink:

I'm cuurrently reading sharpe's books (finally translated to portuguese) and I have a question: did the rifles wear shakos? I'm under the impression they used barrets (for ex as in the set 4497 but green? anyway, GREAT GREAT CUSTOM!

It was smashing! ;D
Lots of action right from the beginning, some unexpected twists and turns, plus the usual touches of sardonic humour that you usually associate with the Sharpe stories. :)
The costumes looked great, and some of the scenery - especially around the palace - is breath-takingly beautiful (including the Indian actresses ;)). It's located quite high up in the hills and there are fantastic views from the roof.
There is a real cliff-hanger type of ending on the first part - Sharpe has to make a very difficult life and death choice. It seems that whatever decision he makes will have tragic personal consequences, so I am eager to see how that is resolved when they screen the second part this evening .
Can't say anymore as I don't want to spoil it for you. :-X ;)

The second part has just finished and I do not wish to spoilt it for any one who lives abroad. except so say that it was brilliant. It will be released on dvd in the uk on the 1st of may. And not only that but we also had on ITV3 a behind the scenes making of the show (which also plugged a book about the behind the scenes) also Bernard Cornwall was interviewed and he said he was at work on a new Sharpe novel.
Note of interest is that the indian princess/villian is married to Salmon Rushdie the writter who offended Islam.
Now if only some tv network would pick up on his Civil war novels and make a series of those

If you happen to see the DVD after it's released, would you please see if it's PAL specific, or if it's universal? I sent David Hamer a DVD of "The Last of the Mohicans" awhile back and it was NSTC specific, so he was unable to watch it.

Perhaps he didn't fancy sitting in front of his PC to watch a long film? ;)
As you know, it's much easier when you have a lap-top because you can set it up in any room and watch in complete comfort. :D

After having laptops for so long, I can't imagine going back to a desktop computer. I love the freedom of having a wireless laptop, a wireless cellphone, a cordless telephone, a wireless iPod, etc. ... :)

As an old Sharpe afficionado I´ve ordered the DVD the very moment I was aware of it´s release. It was cool! The villain was extraordinary evil this time, even more hideous than Major Ducos and the Sergeant, whose name I´m just missing is a fitting pendant to Obadiah Hakeswill and Sir Henry Simmerson is the same fart as always!!!
I sincerely hope that this was a success on British TV abd the Producers get the funds for a new Sharpe adventure! (Since the seems to be no more Hornblower >:()

Nobody can beat Sgt Hawkeswill as a villian. Unfortunately it was panned by the critics so I doubt if they will make another show. Unless they get a new actor to play the young sharpe in the Indian series. I just hope that some american network decideds to make Bernard Cornwall's ACW books into a mini series

I am so glad, Olki, that you liked the new Sharpe episode. I hope that many other people, like you and Krystal, also like it. Because, then maybe they will make another.
Unfortunately, I have to agree with the critics that Craig mentioned. I ordered the DVD from Amazon UK. Since it is formated for Region2, I had to use the DVD player on my computer and patch it into the TV. It worked fine!

Most movies/films are about two hours in length. Which is exactly the length of time of Sharpe's Challenge! I am very sorry that they didn't use the time to make an Academy Award winning film!

I think we all had high hopes. One of my drinking buddies brother is a location finder, I think he was involved in finding places to shoot the Hornblower series. Will try and find out any inside information about future Sharpes or Hornblowers.

I'm putting this request for help in this section because Sharpe is to blame! (i'm seeing the series - finally, 'cause I'm a long time Bernard Cornwelll fan - and loving it). I'm a Playmobil collector, specially of medieval and western stuff, but I'm progressively (since Sharpe started being published in Portugal) starting to buy more and more napoleonic stuff... and i'm seriously considering to start a 3rd costumising subject: the napoleonic wars. i'd like to ask you all for some oointers about where to find uniform info (also about civil war) and specially i'd lioke to know if the hats form the folowing sets are still available from DS (and if yes, what are the part numbers, since they don't exist in playmodb): 5580 - hussars - and 5581 - granadiers.
I'd apreciatte any help you can give me!

no worries To' :D...i too dont have any hussar hats :( ...we have been seeing PM reissuing old parts in new releases so just be patient :P ...someday they'll come ;D..meanwhile work on your other battle fields and show us your work ;)
