Hi Paul,
I haven't count my troops, but I think I have round about 70 US and 35 CSA soldiers. It isn't a very large army.
In the future I will build up some new troops. You can see it on the picture with the three differend coloured soldiers of the US. Ithink that will give this more realism!
Best regards

Hello!
So, I've rebuild my infantry regiments. Simmi and Cooster give me some inspirations and ideas to create this troops.
I use for this customs only the specials 4622 (confederate soldier) and 4628 (union soldier). At first i chanded the equipment from south to north. :D (THX Simmi) Then I also changed the legs in the same way. Because I think the little bit darker trousers looks better by the union soldier. The next step was to coloured the caps in the real infantry style.
At last I will create some decals for the caps. The union will get a harp sign, because they represented the 69th New York Infantry Regiment (1st Irish Brigade). For the Southern troops I haven't an idea at moment.
So, and now enjoy the pictures!
Best regards
Bennain

very nice bennain!
you took the trouble to 'personalise' each character!
(i'm waiting for cuffs & collars...to 'refurbish' my US & CS armies too...thanks for the inspiration too!)
-
Hi cheng,
thx for the compliment. You can disoving your Proplem, if you spend only the Officers and the non comissioned officer the cuffs.
I know it, it is very difficult to make each figur as an individual person. For the future I have prepared 10 different heads for each regiment, so that I can them give some more recruits.

very 'simple' but excellent advice, danke bennain! (why didnt i think of that?!)...i'm doing that now....until i order more cuffs & collars(i do have many extras but in wrong colors...so tempted to spray them into the colors i need....
-
very nice work bennain¡¡¡¡¡¡

So, now I'll present you my new custom. It was inspirated by figurs which was designed from Simmi and Funky.
I took a native american (indian) from Set 3733 (see Collector page 127) and then I removed the blue imprint. After that I painted the shoes and gaiters. finally I have given him some last details.
Best regards
Bennain
-
....a native american ...painted the shoes and gaiters.....
very good idea again!!!!
i was trying to make customs of musketeers/pikemen and was dead against(my own rules) sparying their torsos with this beige/brown colors
and this customised southerner is such a refreshing sight...after seeing so many in blue & grey...or red or green....but never this color...fantastic idea again, Bennain...why didnt i thnk of this!? :)
-
ur 69th irish regiment and the cs virginian soldiers (the last pictures from page one) really remind of the films gettysburg and gods & generals!
they really have a realistic feel to them bennain! really well done i think! :D

I create new sheriffs and sell them with other figures part which I don' need. :D

So, I' ve created this Zuave soldier.

-
hey bennain!
now i'm convinced to make add a small number of Zuave soldiers to my US/CS?(what nationality are they? i thought i have seen them in both CS and US armies of our fellow customisers)
...so is your Zuave in the US or CS? how do you differnetiate them :?
if if wasnt against your rules to pain their hats.. do you think the other Turkish cap(blue with gold cord) would be more 'accurate'? (they are moe angular instead of rounder)
you 'sacrisfied' a torso from the northerner-with-suspender-belts to make him?!
sorry, too many quesions already
-
Hey Cheng,
that’s right. Regiments of the Zuave have served on both sides in the war. I’ve read in a book, that have existed 24 regiments. This Zuave is a member of the US. I will only build a Zuave regiment for the US. :D
France have build in 1830 a “Corps des Zuaves” in Algeria. Because in Algeria exists a tribe, the “Zuauas”. They have also faught before as a mercenary unit in the ottoman empire.
So you can see that the members of these units came from northern africa.
I think, that the other Turkish cap looks much more better, but I haven’t one. Yes that’s true.

Bennain

hey Benain,
i checked some pictures in the internet,
i was wrong, your rounder and taller hat is more correct, sorry!
(the ones i referred to are more squarew and shorter!
and your new ACW units...i like them...they are my-kind-of-armies!!
think both our armies can fight side-by-side :)
and you 54th Mass....i have always wanted to make one but i have problems getting the right hands(without spraying their sleeves  ) how did you get yours....which original kliky is it? do teach me :D !

Hello, Bennain ...
Here's a very accurate painting of the 54th Mass. Regt. from the Company of Military Historians (http://www.military-historians.org/).
(http://www.military-historians.org/company/plates/images/556.gif) (http://www.military-historians.org/company/plates/images/556.htm)
This is the flag of the 28th Massachusetts Regiment. Since all Regimental Colours were usually the same except for the number of the regiment in the scroll, the 54th's Regimental Colours probably looked very similar to these.
(The flag is white and "yellowed" with age.)
(http://www.28thmass.org/Flags/1ststate4.jpg) (http://www.28thmass.org/Flags/Flags.htm)
This regimental flag is probably NOT correct for the 54th Mass. Regt. ...

Click on images for more information and also look at the photos from the movie Glory (http://www.matthewbroderick.net/gallery/movie/glory.html)

The original klicky is from set 3811, part number 3000574. In the last three weeks I’ve bought total 180 soldiers (110 for the north and 70 for the south)! So, that I have got enough parts for the moment to create regiments! :D
@Richard
Thanks for the flags, but this doesn’t really help. How many Stars have the flag and have you a better picture from the first state flag? Do you thing this is the correct flag.

Hello, Bennain ...
I apologize for not telling you that every picture that I posted for you is "clickable" with lots more information. If you "click" on the State Flag it shows more pictures and also tells you how many stars the national flag had at the time. The photos from the movie "Glory" also show the white state flag. And, if you look closely at the "Glory" photos, the state seal (emblem) seems to be the same.
What other information do you need regarding the flags, Bennain?
All the best,
Richard

Hi Richard,

Now I understand what you want, Bennain!
Krystal is an expert with PhotoShop. If you ask her, she might be able to take the information that we have and create some graphics that you could print for your Playmobil flags.
I'm sure that you must be familar with my friend Ian Croxall's warflag.com (http://www.warflag.com/flags/acw/usclassic.shtml) website.

so these are 'Alabama Legs'
expensive is the word :P and i wondered what panos did with their torso...another expensive manouver
like you Bennain, i still hesitate to paint kliky legs...otherwise all my civilians/police/firemen will end up as napoleonic/ACW soldiers :)

 yes i can imagine that... spent way too much on playmobil during the last few months  - although can u ever spend too much on playmobil?
-
Oh not again Bennain,
More Alabama legs you will use lol. Thats a difficult torso to find also i believe.
To answer your questions i didnt spend much since those legs where parts of a lot of figures I got and had roman or viking torsos on them.Maybe a factory mistake?
Now i have loads of roman prisoners without helmets and shields and as soon as i saw Bennains previous post i counted and had exactly the number of his missing Alabama legs lol
So i guess we saved 15 pink Sherifs Dieter didnt we? lol
Keep up the great work.
Those are exellent customs
Cheers

I have expended my zuaves. My taget are a troop from minimum 12 figures.

A new troop for my northern soldiers!
-
good to 'see' you again Bennain!
i'm always so happy to see your ACW troops!
i saw a re-enacted picture the other day...a southerner wearing a red artillery kepi but i had a cross on it...i thought the 'X' is for calvary only? (and also a notherner artilleryman also wearing a kepi with a 'X' on it)
-
Well Cheng, I thing that what you see is not a "X".
Here are the symbols:
Cavalry - 2 cross sabre
Artillery - 2 cross canons
Infantry - posthorn or signal horn (I don't know the right word in the moment)
-
THANKS Bennain!!!
i never knew that!
those 'X' on PM's blue kepis can be BOTH swords OR cannons...fantastic! fantastic!!!(was it intended this way?)
(i was going to remove them from my union artilerrymen but didnt because its against my personal rule to wipe off any original PM printing
but now i know my infantry can have kepi's with 'X' :P :'(
i thought the bugle (horn) sign is only for soldiers with bugles :P :P
someday i'll invest in a printer for stickers for printing those bugles!!
thank you my dear Bennain!
-
Hi,
here I'm proudly present my company of Zuaves. They will fight for the south!

The old red fez is perfect for your Confederate zouaves. How did you ever collect enough of them for your regiment?
Thanks for the photo.

Hi Richard,
some collectors from the german Playmo-Portal has helped me. I need for my northern zuaves round about 30 more. I also need some red vikinglegs for them and then I can present you another regiment.
For those who wants to know which parts I have used:
Body: “Redcoats” – english Soldiers
Legs: German Policemen

Just a suggestion.

and Richard, moulds?! aaaaaaaaaaaaaah....pith hats for redcoats against my zulus.....german 'spear' top WWI helmets.....scottish caps....hussar hats.....chinese hats(from the pirate island set).... :-\

A new project for my ACW troops!
-
Very nice. I love the CSA artillery regiment best of all.
-
This is so kool! It would be super if PM still offered the artillery for ACW. I am really getting discouraged with PM, all the great sets are discontinued. I had thought of doing ACW in PM, but without cannons, it just dosen't work.
I do reenacting as a CSA artilleryman with the 1st South Carolina Light Artillery. Our unit has 4 guns.
However, thanks for sharing these pictures with us.

Hello Richard,
well, in my opinion they have three flags:
- United States 34 stars and stripes
- the Union Troop Flag (I dont know the real name) such like in my pic
- the flag of massachussetts with a slogan
I saw this in the movie Glory.
Do you know this flag?
Warflag is an very interessting page, bat the quality of the flags is for using with Playmobil very bad.
Regards
Bennain
-
Hello, Bennain ...
I'm not sure that the flag shown in the movie "Glory" is accurate. It's based upon the current Massachusetts State Flag (see attachment) which wasn't adopted until 1915.
Click HERE (http://www.sec.state.ma.us/pre/presea/sealhis.htm) for the official information about the Massachusetts State Seal. I think that you might agree that the movie makers may have used their imaginations rather than historical fact.
However, the great thing with Playmobil is that we can be like the movie makers. We can also use our imaginations and make whatever we want ... ;)
All the best,
Richard

Those are wonderful looking American Civil War customs! I love the volunteers and the generals!

Excellent ACW figures! Your confederate officers are very interesting.
I really like your band of Rebel volunteers.
From what I have read lately, and the pictures I've seen, your
Playmobil armies look very realistic.

I've been told that at the time of the Civil War there was no set pattern for the stars on the US flag and ACW experts who are deeply into the subject can tell which Army depot issued any flag by the arranagment of the stars.
This has got nothing to do with anything but I thought it was interesting.

Well, in the last few month I've rebuild all my ACW troops. Now i can show you the first results of this.
Enjoy

I too like to have my ACW armies looking smart and 'cloned' :P ;D
I'm waiting to add more from the new northerners coming out in August ;)
