Title: Colonial Asia
Post by: specialist on September 08, 2010, 09:19:18 PM
Cheng is obviously the master in this territory and it is nearly impossible to reach his creations, but colonial activities in Asia got me interested recently. Seems to be an ideal topic for me, the ideal mixture of uniformity and variety I like so much (Culloden, Napolen in Egypt, 30 years war).

I thought about doing something on the Boxer Rebellion but the Europeans are hard to do. The Opium wars came to my mind, but original parts fitting the theme are hard to find. So it was Boxers again. Perhaps this topic won't last long but here are a few sets:

not at all...I like to see asians through western eyes...interesting  ;)
and Ralf making this very interesting theme using only original PM parts (where I cant) is a big eye opener for me, I am thrilled to see how Ralf does this again and again  :)
using parts I dared not use  :P

and knowing more has to follow since this is only the surface from Ralf  ;D
..and suddenly, I'm not alone (and this is like Geobra making them....when I say they never will  :D)
MEHR, Ralf....MEHR!!  :D

It's not about competition, it is about inspiration.

You are right, I am sorry I brought up anything of a competition.
(Though I really only meant it as a joke. :) )

These new ones are great too Ralf!
What did you use for their chest pieces?
What do they represent in real life? Plate armor? ???

Specialist, I love your stuff, but these Asians are too interpretive for me to strongly associate with the Boxer (Yi-he-tuan) uprising.

The European and American troops look good!

How could I possibly ignore Timmy's comments? ... ;)

First, I agree. The European and American troops do indeed "look good".

However, regarding your Asian comment ... Playmobil figures have always been "interpretive" in design!
IMHO, that's what Playmobil is all about. An "interpretive" representation of reality!

All the best my "picky, picky" friend,
Richard

These are fantastic figures Ralf! :o :o :o
They look magnificent. :) :o

Where did you get the long blue skirt with bare feet from?

I think the skirt belonged to a woman from the dollhouse.

Next: Russian Infantry, an Australian Sailor and a few Asians.

I keep thinking about getting some Asian klickies and making the British Wei-hi-wei Regiment.
