Title: In ancient times
Post by: specialist on May 30, 2010, 06:41:03 PM
I think the original Romans from Playmobil are quite nice, but there are a few possibilities to "mix around" with them.

As a Roman fan, I particularly like these customs, Ralf!  I agree that Playmobil did an excellent job with their Romans, but they’re from the late Republic and early Empire.  Your excellent customs here, however, are from an earlier period that Playmobil did not touch upon and thus they make wonderful complements to Playmobil’s stock klickies.

Your velite is perfect!  How about a rank of 10 or so of them? ;)

I like your leather armored soldier with his sash.  He would make a great optio and is a nice contrast to the heavily armored Romans.

In your last picture, your Republican soldiers look very authentic!  The crests are spot on and I love the bronze helmets and greaves!  Your signifier or cornicen looks great too!  Well done!

WOW!
Great new customs Ralf!
I was wondering where you got the ideas for these Romans when Justindo mentioned the early republic!
I hit myself on the head for not realising! ::)

They are supearb! I never even thought of making Early Republic Romans,
but now that I see them I want them so bad!!!
What a great job!!! :o :o :o

Awsome new groups Ralf!!! ;D
Ireally like the last group,
Do you ever make your customs in a larger quantity?
Like, do you make more than the 2 or 3 you show us?
Whole centuries and the what-not? ;D

Excellent customs, once again, Ralf!  I like the color variety in the first group, the men in undress in the second group, and the officer in the third group.  Is the last group supposed to be Praetorians?  They look great! :)

Someone said once that there is nothing to be customized with the romans. I had believed him for a long time. There are a few very nice ones among your latest figures.

¿What idiot said that? I only have a half-dozen or so, but I’ve customized mine already. In fact, I even customized my old ones (the ones with the white skirts).

Your new Centurions are awe-inspiring! (http://www.klickywelt.de/images/smilies/staun02.gif)
Especially the two on the left. (http://www.gardenwargamer.com/images/bowdown.gif)

in your first set.

Excellent Egyptians and Romans, Ralf.  The latter look like militia or could be light auxiliaries equipped with javelins or slingshots.

Hi Ralf,

Fantastic custom, as usual!

I'm guessing late Roman (4th, maybe even 5th century?) scout or light cavalryman, serving somewhere along a northern frontier. But I'm no expert. No matter when he's from, he looks great!

Cheers,

AndrewL
