Title: 16th century Korean generals and lady
Post by: Timotheos on February 14, 2009, 06:58:01 AM
This is General Yi Poknam, governor of Cholla Province, fighting off the Japanese invaders during the invasion of Korea in the late 1500s.

Re-enactor dressed in the costume of a general during the Chosun era (late 1500s+)

I researched a lot of different colors for the dress, and found a compromise using existing parts.  I have another woman in mind I'll fashion later.

Responses from other forums have persuaded me I need more visual cues...

Since these two have nothing on them that screams far-east, I added the "iconic" Playmobil Asian eye...

The general looked slinky with the ordinary "Mandarin Prince" eyes, so I grabbed the head from a former "Vietnamese Mafia" klicky that comes with the police theme.

I tried Cleopatra eyes on the Korean woman, but even that left her looking ambiguously Victorian...

As for my Manchus with the Manchu hats... I feel more confident leaving them with standard round eyes... they are clearly Asiatic, considering their hats and costumes.

Corean general is well done, corean civilians are dificult to made, for the general in civilian dress, the ranger hat have one only use, you can perhaps take the old farmer hat of 1980s painted in black and the cravatte is too much westerner.
