Magnificent custom of the 24th Regiment, South Wales Borderers, Cheng!

Has Michael made a mould? And, is he now casting copies of his beautiful helmet (topi with pugaree)?

(I dare not work with such accuracy in mind)

Pugaree? Sounds like a babyfood, Micheal....please come in...I'm lost here  :P

A "pugaree" is a cloth band or scarf worn around a helmet or slouch hat. However, it can also be worn round a kulla to form a turban.

this is most interesting!  :)
thanks for the very good pictures....i'm most surprised at the first picture...it looks like this 'pugaree' is a removable band and good for putting in feathers/leaves or even photos of girl friends/wives all-around!!  ;D
(i've always thought its sewn on..only leaving a few gaps....my grandfather used to wear one of those sun hats whenever he went around...i was too young to check if it was removable but it look so fitting that i have always assumed them to be just a decoration rather than for any purpose.)  :P

and i couldnt find the term "kulla" is it indian for some 'skin cap'? (turbans are wound around their hair)  ;)

The RED pointy thing in the middle is a kulla (or kullah)
