i've always said that the PM Romans are so well made that there is nothing for me to customise...so the only thing i can do is make some of their 'cousins'
i had fun making their helmets...not a drop of glue was made...i can still pick them up by their 'feathers' ;D
-
intersting way of customizing the helmets cheng...very nice idea really!
-
they look great! the only thing I could mention is that greeks in the hoplite times didnt have iron weaponry. How did you make the plumes?
TT
-
thanks Gai.

hey TT, thanks a lot...so i will switch to wooden but still painted shields i suppose(but i wish PM has bigger round shields :D )
the red plumes are from those old red indians with bison headwears...i like them not fully inserted like this. ;)
-
I see you used your spare time very well. :o
-
A very, very creative use of parts, Cheng!
Brilliant, actually!
I can't wait to try to mimic your Greek customs next Spring when I return to Canada!
-
Those indian plumes are great. They really give it a more Greek rather than Roman feel because they go down to the neck.
great work again

over to you Micheal....my horses havent go space to run....(btw my mongols's horses were there just for photography...those poor fellas are climbing the Steppes now :D )
and Richard,
here's some angled shots of the helm in case you agree with them ;)
-
the pictures show some details which I didnt see at my first view at the pictures. U made more than 'just' a cut in the front! Thats good to know
-
splendid work cheng! u have been rather busy! :D ;D

Sorry for capturing your thread. I though it would fit better here than in an own one. ::)
The front part of one of the barbarian helmets remembered me to your custom and i made a search to find out if this can be used for greek hoplites, too. There existed once a quite similar type, referred to as 'corinthian helmet'. The pm part comes in 'bronze' ;) and grey. Maybe a plume can be attached using your technique.
For reference http://pt.trekearth.com/gallery/photo493220.htm (http://pt.trekearth.com/gallery/photo493220.htm) (might take some time to load). Picture googling 'greek helmets' reveals more examples.

or another reference Henry ;):

Oops, sorry, Panos, that was before my time. Of course I should have checked all your threads before.
Nice customs, btw.
-
thats a very old thread Henry
one cant check all and I am glad you made me remember it
Anyway there is no such thing as
Parthenogenesis (from the Greek παρθένος parthenos, "virgin", + γένεσις genesis, "creation")
we all get ideas from somewere ;)
Go on, the more Greeks the better lol
Cheers

thanks for keeping this thread alive Micheal(a.k.a."Henry M" :D
i have to show my latest helmet with 'unglued' nose-protector soon...i'm getting there ;)
and of course...your greek customs rekindled my greek fire ;D
and Pastifi;
even with old members like me(who must have seen those fantastic 'old' Greek customs) do forget
and thanks.. notice that there was a notch cut behind the cheek protectors too(and i thought i was the first to do so :P )
-
ok..so here's my latest helmet...this time with a what-you-call-it 'nose-protector'....
no glue used...its shaped from the original bar between the eye slits
(i have seen many memebers even successfully sticking/gluing nose pieces on Norman helmets...i have no such confidence on expoxies ;D )
-
Love your "embarrassed" animated gif, Michael ... ;)
